Edie took a deep breath to calm herself down. Her little face was covered with a layer of cold frost.
"I dare to do anything, my dear. It is his fault. This is my husbandās wedding with another woman. I should be given a proper explanation."
Then, Edie walked towards the church with determination.
Marina said behind her in a slow voice, "Edie, read the invitation card Iāve given you."
Edie looked at the invitation card in her hands confusingly. But she was really not in the mood to study the invitation card at the moment.
Though Edie sounded so relaxing, she was extremely scared now.
What should she say when she saw Stuart?
Seeing Edie disappearing from her sight gradually, Marina looked away and turned around into the car.
The present box was still on the rear seat. She took it and drove away.
She had no bridegroom in this wedding. This was her own wedding.
Standing in front of the church, Edieās heart started trembling hard.
Would she see that man she had been dreaming of for thousands of times after opening the door?
Edie didnāt dare to think about it because her mind was already in such a mess now.
She took a deep breath and clenched her teeth. Then she pushed that cold iron door with her little hands hard.
The door was opened.
Edie saw a man. He wore a black suit and a white shirt insides. The tie looked neat.
He stood there straightly, hanging his two hands at his waist. He stood on the higher stairs. That made him look taller.
That face didnāt change at all. He was not disfigured. Edie didnāt see any disabled part in him. Since he could get married to Marina, he must be able to have sex with woman. When seeing Edie, he frowned. He squinted. Deep in his black eyes were light of astonishment.
Even his mouth was opened. It seemed that he was really shocked when seeing Edie.
What? Didnāt he know she would come to their wedding?
Or he didnāt know Marina invited her? Was he shameful for what he had done to her now?
Thinking about this, Edie couldnāt help herself sneering at the corner of her mouth. She walked towards him step by step. The fraction of her shoes with the floor produced a strange sound.
Finally, she walked to him and stood in front of him. She smiled towards Stuart, "Mr. Yates, I am invited here to attend your wedding.
Hearing these words, Stuart frowned and said, "Where is Marina?"
Hearing these words, Edie felt heartbroken.
He was asking about Marina now. The first thing he asked about was Marina. Then what about her?
"I donāt know. She might be changing her clothes. She didnāt come with me. Since youāve decided to get married to her, I would give you my best..."
Before Edie finished her words, Stuart buckled her wrist directly and went downstairs.
"What the hell are you doing?" Edie was pissed off.
Stuart went to the yard. But he couldnāt find Marina. He went to the garage. He couldnāt find his own car. Marina left.
He went to her room. He saw a mobile phone. There was a video on it. Marina made the video.
She recorded the video this morning.
"Stuart, when you watch this video, I have already left. I am really sorry for forcing you to stay with me for such a long time without calling Edie. I apologize to you for I make you a couple so miserable. Please forgive me for what Iāve done. Youāve always taken good care of me. It is me that couldnāt distinguish the love between friends. You treat me like my kind brother. But I mistook it as your special love. Iāve been mistaking it for many years. It is time for me to wake up."
"Actually...I donāt want to be that miserable. But I could not control myself. So I am so sorry. I should apologize to you. I would go back to a town to have a good rest and become a doctor in Africa. Donāt come to look for me, Stuart, we are now even. You have nothing to do with me anymore. Again. Best blessing."
"Besides, in the invitation card, Iāve given Edie the last sentence I want to say to you, goodbye, my sir."
While taking this video, Marina looked so gentle. Warm sunlight poured onto her face with a beautiful smile.
Watching this video, both Stuart and Edie fell into deep silence. Especially Stuart. Stuart held the mobile phone so tightly that the mobile phone might be crushed in his hands.
Edie took the mobile phone out and took the invitation out. There was a piece of paper in the card,
"Stuart opens it."
Edie hesitated for a while and passed it to Stuart.
"From Marina."
Edie understood everything now. She understood why he never showed up these days. He was paying the debt.
She saw Stuart took the paper and left. He raised a ridiculous smile at the corner of his mouth.
He was so focused on the paper that he didnāt notice Edie had left.
Because he saw these words.
"Actually, it was not me that found you under the bridge fifteen years ago. It was a girl. She did artificial breathing for you. She was not familiar with the place. While she looked for someone to help you, she met with me. Therefore, you never kissed me. I never saved you. You donāt owe me anything."
So, it was another girl that saved him?
So, who did he kiss that year?
He frowned. It took him quite a while to calm himself down. Then he turned around to look for Edie. But Edie has already left.
***
Edie got into the taxi. She opened the window, allowing the cold wind was blow into the car, blowing her eyes.
She thought she could hold Stuart tightly into her arms after watching that video. She would forgive him. But when she was reminded how helpless and scared these several months, she could not do that.
She was woken up by nightmare every day. She had to bear all her sorrow and sadness by herself. Though she looked so peaceful, she would get crazy every time she heard anything about him.
She would never be able to forget what sheās been suffering these days. It was really difficult for her to describe what sheās gone through.
What if she disappeared for two months? What if she showed up in front of Stuart with another man after two months? Would Stuart forgive her so easily?
Edie wiped the tears at the corner of her eyes. At the moment, her face was covered with a layer of cold frost.
She looked at the ring on her finger for a while and then took it off without any hesitation.
This time, Stuart didnāt find her. He announced to the public that he didnāt die. He said he was accepting the treatment abroad these days.
Within several minutes, all media reported the news.
Edie received lots of calls.
From Aaron, Bette, Brittany, Norman...
Edie didnāt want to answer one call. She hung down the phone directly and left home.
She drove the car away.
