Because Wayne Warner still couldnât move, Nina Jacobs had to feed him.
He ate quickly, and in no time, heâd polished off three cartons of lean pork porridge.
Nina Jacobs then fed him a few meat buns.
Watching Wayne Warner devour a whole meat bun in a single bite, most of Nina Jacobsâs worries vanished.
"Thatâs all you can eat for now."
Nina Jacobs remembered it was best for patients to eat small, frequent meals to aid their recovery.
"Okay."
She had expected Wayne Warner to be disappointed, but to her surprise, he readily agreed.
Soon after he finished eating, Wayne Warner fell into a deep sleep again.
Nina Jacobs noticed that some of the wounds on his skin were already starting to heal slowly.
âAt least the bleeding has stopped.â
âThe rest will just take time to heal.â
The safe house only had one room.
For a bit of privacy, Nina Jacobs arranged a few cabinets to serve as a partition.
âCome to think of it, I picked up these cabinets back then.â
Nina Jacobs muttered to herself, looking at the display cabinet with Gold Bars still inside its glass case.
It was a counter sheâd taken from the Superpower User Alliance compound.
The situation was urgent, so sheâd just taken everything.
âI wonder if I can get something extra out of this deal.â
Nina Jacobs remembered Tyson Hughes saying this shipment of weapons and supplies had apparently been dispatched from the main branch of the Hughes Family.
The goal was to help Quinn establish a firm foothold in the City D Base.
However, from what Zane Hughes had said, it seemed someone from the main branch wanted to frame Tyson Hughes.
If that was the case, it was hard to say who this shipment of weapons was really for.
âIn her past life, Tyson Hughes was supposed to die within these two days.â
âAnd in this life, Simon Abbott had specifically come back to warn him about it.â
âSo, on whose orders did Dylan Quinn kill Tyson Hughes?â
Early the next morning, Nina Jacobs was already lying in wait at the golf course.
Before she left, however, Wayne Warner had already eaten breakfast.
Worried sheâd be gone for a long time, she had left plenty of food in the safe house.
After a night of recovery, Wayne Warner was now able to lift his arms.
His fingers still couldnât hold anything too heavy, but he could manage a fork and spoon.
She had told Wayne Warner to wait for her to return in the safe house.
Just as Nina Jacobs was spawning a Little Zombie Rat out of sheer boredom, a whirring sound echoed from the sky, growing steadily closer.
âTheyâre here!â
It was a helicopter.
The helicopter quickly landed on the dead grass in the middle of the golf course.
Seven or eight people stepped out of the helicopter.
A closer look revealed that three of them had thick, heavy metal chains shackled to their ankles.
"Why arenât they here yet?"
A tall man, the leader of the group, surveyed the area with an impatient look on his face.
"Yeah, we came all this way to deliver their stuff, and this is the welcome we get?"
"If we didnât have to worry about the possibility of zombie crows over there, we wouldâve just dropped this off right at their compound."
"Letâs just wait a little longer, Young," a man carrying a rifle said, sitting down off to the side. "They probably ran into some trouble on the road."
"Silas Young, can you get these things off our ankles? Weâre here now. Itâs not like weâre going to run, right?" one of the shackled men said.
"No. Itâs policy. If something goes wrong, none of us can bear the responsibility," the tall man, Silas Young, said.
"We risk our lives for this, and weâre still treated like thieves. Itâs tough being a Space Superpower User."
Another man said, shaking his head in resignation.
"What can you do? Wasnât there that Space Superpower User who loaded up on a ton of stuff and then just vanished? That guy, Xavier Coleman. Back then, Hughes and the others thought so highly of him, but he just had to go and run off. Tell me, who wouldnât be pissed about that?"
With the scorching sun overhead, the men started chatting under the shade of some nearby eaves.
What they didnât know was that Nina Jacobs was just on the other side of a wall from them.
She was currently listening with great relish to their gossip.
"So we Space Superpower Users are just meant to be tools. Weâll probably never get a chance to get ahead in life. How tragic..."
"Thereâs another way. If you Space Superpower Users could just awaken another Superpower, wouldnât that be perfect?" one of the men beside Silas Young said.
"Exactly. Like that woman from our City A, the one with the surname Xie. Sheâs a Three-Element Superpower User. She has Space, Thunder Element, and... what was the other one?"
"Spiritual Element Superpower."
Silas Young added.
"Right, right, thatâs it! Spiritual Element. Every one of her Superpowers is something to be jealous of. That broad even managed to awaken a Spiritual Element..."
âA Three-Element Superpower User with the surname Xie?â
Nina Jacobs was genuinely surprised.
âHas someone really awakened three elements only two months into the apocalypse?â
Her interest piqued, she continued to listen, and what the men said next caught her attention even more.
"Have you guys heard about that potion? The one that can even cure cancer. Itâs incredible."
"Is that for real? If a medicine that powerful really exists, why canât it cure the zombie virus?" one of his companions asked doubtfully.
"Itâs true. I saw it with my own eyes." Silas Young looked toward the distant helicopter, his expression puzzled as he recalled the event.
"For real? If youâre the one saying it, Young, then I believe you."
It seemed to be the first time any of them had heard this, and they all looked shocked.
"After drinking that potion, a personâs wounds heal right before your eyes. Itâs like a magic elixir..." Silas Young said.
"So where does that potion come from?"
Silas Young shook his head.
"We donât know. All we know is that someone high up spent a fortune to get their hands on it."
"That makes sense. If its existence were made public, people would probably be killing each other to get it..."
The menâs conversation made Nina Jacobs suspicious.
âWhy does this sound more and more like the Systemâs Healing Potion?â
Hearing it from one person could be a coincidence.
But now that this man, Silas Young, was saying it too, it was very likely true.
She was certain that her Healing Potions had never gotten out.
Even when sheâd used them to help others, they were always diluted so heavily that they wouldnât heal wounds at a rate visible to the naked eye.
But this Silas Young had seen it in City A.
That meant it definitely had nothing to do with her.
There was perhaps only one other possibility.
She wasnât the only one with a System...
As soon as the thought occurred to her, Nina Jacobs couldnât resist calling up her System.
[Hostâs question exceeds the Systemâs known permissions. Unable to answer.]
This was the answer Nina Jacobs had expected.
Still, Nina Jacobs thought this might not necessarily be a bad thing.
At least, it didnât affect her for now.
In her past life, City A had been a hotbed of power struggles within Drakonia.
It was also where the largest number of Drakoniaâs survivors were located.
Sheâd had no dealings with City A in her past life.
âAnd she probably wouldnât in this life, either.â
Just as Nina Jacobs was continuing to listen to the men share all sorts of information about City A, a noise finally came from the golf courseâs main gate.
"Theyâre here."
Silas Young saw Dylan Quinn and his group walking toward them.
However, Dylan Quinn and his men looked clearly disheveled and worn out.
Even the supply trucks following them showed varying degrees of damage.
"Young, long time no see."
Although Dylan Quinn was seething with anger, he still offered a polite apology upon seeing Silas Young and his men.
"Someone deliberately led zombies to you? No wonder youâre so late. Will you be able to get back okay?" one of Silas Youngâs men asked with a frown.
Taking all these weapons back... are these guys really going to be okay?
"Donât worry, Young. Iâve already sent someone back for reinforcements. The weapons are the priority, and we will be sure to handle them with the utmost care."
