Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Having either a boy or a girl is good fortune
Su Shu had never been to a village like Peng Mountain Village before. She lived in an extremely convenient modern city and, when she was young, she followed her parents to the rural countryside.
But the impression from back then compared to what she saw now, there were many differences.
The difference with Peng Village was that, if it wasnât for the newly built road that led out of the village, the entire village was actually in a state of seclusion. Peng Sanye suggested she take a walk on her own to get a feel for things, so Su Shu really did take Xiaoâai for a walk in the middle of the village without venturing further inside.
One reason was that it would be impolite, the other was that she was unfamiliar with the place.
Towards unfamiliar environments, she always had a sense of caution, a shadow and habit left behind from the hard life in her previous existence.
She led Xiaoâai, who was clutching Dinosaur Jun. Wherever the two of them went, they became an extremely âeye-catchingâ focus. Originally, she thought Xiaoâai would find it very difficult to adapt, but to her surprise, the little girlâs adaptability was even better than hers. After walking with her for a while, Xiaoâai was attracted by the grass-woven crickets in the hands of the surrounding children, wriggled out of her hand, and very naturally followed the local customs.
...
Perhaps because Xiaoâai was too pretty, her fair and tender complexion standing out from the village children who spent their days climbing mountains to catch birds and fishing in the rivers. Even though she didnât talk much, she was quite likable.
Before long, they all formed one group, and seeing this, Su Shu didnât interrupt but watched the scenery from not too far away.
The air in Peng Village was truly good, carrying the distinctive scent of grass and trees from the mountains and forests; the fatigue from the drive there had vanished without a trace.
When the Village Chiefâs wife, Feng Hua, came over to call her for dinner, Su Shu found that the usually quiet Xiaoâai had made several new friends.
âOh my, you bunch of little monkeys, how could you take Xiaoâai to roll around in the grass, just look at all the dirt on her pants.â Having said that, she quickly went to pat the loose grass off Xiaoâai.
Xiaoâai shied away, not used to it.
Feng Hua felt a bit awkward. Seeing this, Su Shu hurriedly apologized with embarrassment, âSheâs a bit shy around new faces, Sister Feng, please donât mind.â
âHow could I? I just forgot for a moment.â Feng Hua laughed off the embarrassment, âYou city folks surely donât do things like we do here, letting the kids run wild. I see Xiaoâai seems quite happy playing with them.â
Being adept in social situations among women, Feng Hua quickly steered the conversation away from the slight awkwardness. Although there was a tiny bit of discomfort in her heart, could she as an adult really stoop to the level of a child?
However, Feng Hua didnât expect her thoughts to change so soon.
Xiaoâai must have been truly clever. Although she avoided Feng Hua, she pulled out two White Rabbit Creamy Candies from her pocket and put them into the talking Su Shuâs hand.
Su Shu was puzzled, and upon looking at her, she noticed the timid little girl glancing over at Feng Hua who was speaking nonstop, and she felt a small realization dawn on her.
Placing the two candies on the table in front of Feng Hua, she smiled warmly, âSister Feng, the little girl must have been too embarrassed earlier. Sheâs apologizing to you.â
Feng Hua was taken aback and looked at the candies, then at Xiaoâai standing by Su Shuâs leg. Her heart instantly melted.
She chuckled, âSister, Iâm not jealous, but where did you get such a lovely girl whoâs so easy to adore? Tell me too, and Iâll go pray for one. Iâm not fated to have daughters; my boys drive me crazy every day.â
Su Shu laughed, âSister Feng, both boys and girls are blessings. Besides, you shouldnât think Iâm young, I understand that in the village, having more sons makes things easier.â
Upon hearing this, Feng Huaâs eyes lit up, thinking that although the girl looked delicate, she really had some Spiritual Energy about her. Changing the subject, she sighed.
