Chapter 904: Chapter 904: She Lied
At this moment, Fenny Marshallâs mind was in utter chaos. It turned out that the rumors of Mrs. Mamet being abandoned were false. Mr. Caleb Mamet had clearly doted on her to the extent that he was willing to waste his precious time queuing for her desserts. How deep must his favoritism run to make such a haughty man pay such meticulous attention to someone?
Fear filled Fenny Marshallâs eyes as she hastily retreated backward. Even thoughts of fleeing crossed her mind. As she was about to leave, Caleb Mamet unexpectedly turned around. His tone was ice-cold, âDirector Marshall.â
Upon hearing Caleb Mamet call her, Fenny Marshallâs body began to tremble. The next second, she heard Caleb Mamet asking calmly, âHere in Windrop Entertainment, you should refer to Mrs. Mamet as the Chairman. Tell me, does Mrs. Mamet not have the qualifications to be the CEO of two companies?â
Fenny Marshallâs face paled, her head lowered. If Windrop Entertainment was a gift from Caleb Mamet to Xaviera Evans, it meant that they had known each other eight years ago, when Xaviera was just a child.
Jared Griffel stepped forward, his expression cold, âDirector Marshall, our chairman does not accept your apology. Please leave immediately!â
If Xaviera Evans declined to accept her apology, she would be ousted from the company before the merger took place. Overwhelmed, Fenny Marshall found herself outside the gates of Windrop Entertainment. She was completely drained, a mere shell of her former self. When she finally made it back to Natural Sound, many of the senior executives had been waiting for her.
...
âDirector Marshall, what exactly have you done? How did you upset the person in charge of Windrop Entertainment? What did they say?â
âHas the chairman of Windrop Entertainment forgiven you? Will they still be sending people over for the handover?â
Her head low, her body cold and shivering, Fenny Marshall mumbled, âThe chairman of Windrop Entertainment hasnât forgiven me.â
âWhat?â One of the executivesâ face darkened in an instant, he yelled at Fenny Marshall, âMr. Caleb Mamet takes this company merger very seriously. Iâve told you to adhere to the handover ceremony strictly. But what have you done now, they wonât be sending anyone over from Windrop Entertainment. If Mr. Caleb Mamet blames us, whoâs going to take responsibility?â
Fighting back her tears, Fenny Marshall could barely speak. The senior executive took a deep breath, âArenât you good friends with Miss Hughes? Our best bet now might be to ask Miss Hughes to intercede on our behalf. After all, sheâs friends with the chairman of Windrop Entertainment. If she pleads on our behalf, the chairman might give us some face.â
Upon hearing this, Fenny Marshallâs eyes darkened. She finally understood where she had gone wrong. If it werenât for Zora Hughes impersonating the CEO early this morning, telling her that she and Mr. Mamet were on good terms, and that Mr. Mamet no longer liked Xaviera Evans, how could she have offended Mrs. Mamet?
It was all Zora Hughesâs fault! She lied! She was a despicable woman!
âMiss Hughes! Weâre glad youâre here, weâŠâ Just as one of the executives was explaining the situation to Zora Hughes who had just walked over, Fenny Marshall burst into derisive laughter.
An executive frowned in displeasure, âWhatâs your problem? Why are you laughing out of sudden!â
âMr. Pan, I laugh at Miss Hughes for pretending she knows the Chairman of Windrop Entertainment, when she doesnât at all. Your plan of asking her for help is useless. She wonât be able to solve this issue,â Fenny Marshall said looking fiercely at Zora Hughes.
Zora Hughes shivered but quickly regained her composure. Her voice was still soft, laced with a hint of guilt, âDirector Marshall, how can you say that about me? Just because the chairman hasnât forgiven you, doesnât mean you can blame me.â
âYou said that you and the chairman of Windrop Entertainment are friends?â Fenny Marshall challenged, her voice suddenly sharp, âWhy werenât you aware when the chairman came just now? The actual chairman was standing right there, but you took the CEOâs place and used her fame to deceive us! Talk about being calculating, Zora Hughes!â
The minute her words fell, the entire hall fell silent. Everyone turned to look at Zora Hughes, even the executive gazed at her with suspicion, âMiss Hughes, is it you who chased away the chairman of Windrop Entertainment?â
If all this was orchestrated by Zora Hughes, then it had nothing to do with Natural Sound. At least, they would have an explanation to give Mr. Caleb Mamet.
Zora Hughesâs face turned dark, her voice faintly trembling, âDirector Marshall, what are you talking about? I am the CEO. I havenât seen the chairman of Windrop Entertainment since I came to the company, how could it be possible for me to drive him away?â
âAre you sure about that? Why donât you think again?â Fenny Marshallâs face contorted into a mocking smile, her voice chilling like a demonâs.
