Chapter 1440: Chapter 1440: The Understanding Little Green Tea
At this moment, Quinn Powell began to shake uncontrollably, seemingly due to the cold. She involuntarily curled up her frail body. Jacob Powell had kept his patience so far, but seeing Quinn biting her lips in pain stirred a rising agitation within him.
"Father, Quinnâs illness has worsened, she canât bear any more pain. Iâm taking her to the doctor. As for Xaviera..."
Robert Powell seemed a bit reluctant but still nodded his head, "Quinn, if you really canât hang on, please go back. Xaviera wonât blame you."
Quinn, however, bit her lip and shook her head weakly, "Daddy, itâs not right. You and my brother have been longing for my sister to come home for so many years. Now when she is finally found, if she found out my brother abandoned her for me, she would be devastated. I am only an adopted daughter, I shouldnât monopolize my sisterâs love, I... cough, cough..."
"Quinn, stop talking." Jacob quick to interrupt her, gently rubbing her back to ease her breathing, anger welling up within him. He was just about to open his mouth whenâ
Robert thumps his thigh, praising, "Quinn is so considerate! Thank you from your brother and me. As soon as we see your sister, we will rush you to the doctor."
Quinn gripped her pallid fingers tighter.
Robertâs thinking was simple. He believed that they were a family, that Xaviera and Quinn were sisters, thus it was not a problem for Quinn to wait for a while. But it was not the same for Jacob. Quinn had been waiting for so long with her fragile body, yet their father seemed to still prioritize Xaviera, which infuriated Jacob.
Xaviera hasnât come home yet and their father seemed to already have a bias, when she did come home, what would become of Quinn?
Seeing Quinnâs lips bleeding from biting too hard, Jacob stood abruptly. "Dad, the conference has already ended for a while now, Xaviera is still not back but Quinn... her body..."
Before he could finish, a warm male voice filtered in from outside, "Xaviera, donât rush, walk slowly."
Walk slowly? The moment Jacob heard this, his rage surged. Quinn had been waiting for so long with her feeble body, yet Xaviera was leisurely heading home. Was she deliberately causing pain for Quinn?
Just then, Quinn, frowning, coughed a few times, further fuelling Jacobâs anger.
"Quinn!"
Robert also frowned in apparent concern. Knowing they were waiting for her at home, yet Xaviera was still delaying, despite him and Jacobâs patience, Quinnâs body was frail, she couldnât wait!
Was Xaviera making things difficult for them on purpose?
"Quinn, Iâm sorry. I didnât expect her to do this. You are already sick, yet sheâs still making you suffer. Iâll take you away now." Jacob felt his heart bleed.
"Brother, you have... not wronged me." Quinnâs voice was shaky, "If not for you and Dad, I would have died. To be able to become a part of your family is the luckiest thing that ever happened to me in my life. Please, donât blame my sister because of me. If I had known my body was so weak, I wouldnât have come, causing you such trouble."
"Today was supposed to be a reunion for you three. Iâm just an adopted daughter. If my coming here upsets my sister, then Iâm the one to blame, brother. Cough, cough!"
The more consideration Quinn showed, the greater guilt Jacob felt, accompanied by increased dissatisfaction with Xavieraâs actions.
Look at how understanding Quinn was, but how was Xaviera behaving? Knowing they were waiting for her at home, still delaying her return. Now that she had lost her memory, she shouldnât hold a grudge against him. Unless, she was deliberately dropping a hint to Quinn before returning home.
The woman had already lost her memories yet sheâs still troubling Quinn so much. If Xaviera regained her memory, would she kill Quinn?
Jacob grew angrier as he thought about this and couldnât help clenching his fists.
After several seconds of silence, he suppressed his anger, shouting out, "Xaviera, youâre already home, why are you not coming in? Dad and I could have waited for you, but Quinn is sick, she cannot wait! If you are reluctant to come home with us, we wonât force you, but can it really be that difficult to meet us? What on earthâ"
Before he could finish, Caleb Mamet ushered Xaviera through the door. Her arm was in plaster, a thick bandage wrapped around it, hanging from her neck. It seemed like the injury was severe. Steve Price and Sean Price clung to her tightly, as if worried she might faint at any moment.
