Chapter 1170: Rewards (7) [Bonus]
[I hope both sides of your pillow are warm tonight, Chronotitan </3]
âWhatâs a Legacy Treasure?â
âPay up.â
Sylas did as he was told.
âA Legacy Treasure is a Treasure tied to a Legacy of some sort.â
âAnd?â Sylas asked.
âWhat more do you want? Thatâs everything.â
âBut this doesnât do anything. I canât sense anything from it at all. Thereâs also no description. Itâs a blank slate.â
âThatâs because itâs a Legacy Treasure vessel, not a real Legacy Treasure.â
Sylas frowned. So it was useless?
He was about to ask how he should make use of it when he noticed something. The little girl had just provided an interesting answer just now.
She was answering an important question without asking for paymentâwhich meant he had stumbled into a loophole of sorts.
So, instead of asking specifically about the Treasure, he changed his wording.
âHow would you use a Legacy Treasure Vessel?â
âTheyâre very good at consolidating a Path into a single core. Often, theyâre actually quite good, um⊠test subjects. Legacy Treasures are almost like living beings, but not quite. They have layers akin to humanoids and beasts, and they can read and react to the world much the same.â
âGlyphspire Crucible⊠so itâs a legacy relating to Rune Mastery?â
The little girl didnât answer, but Sylas also didnât need her to.
Even now, Sylas was still a bit confused. What use would a test subject for his Runes have? He was already capable of testing his Runes just fine without something like this.
UnlessâŠ
âA single Rune is fine, but what about something as complicated as a Rune Armor? The number of moving parts and pieces involved, each of them having various triggers and tweaks to them⊠that would be much more difficult to arrangeâŠâ
But it still felt⊠lackluster.
Sylas was already capable of that. He had modified his own Scorpion Warlord Armor into a Serpentes Armor for Cassarae to use.
Of course, that armor was far weaker than his own by a substantial margin. But he had done it so casually and easily that it was practically a footnote to him. Though, granted, he had had the help of the UniForge to complete it so quickly nonetheless.
Still, the proof of concept was there. If he could do it once, he could do it againâand better.
Sylas rotated the crystal in his palm, not saying much at first, but then his mind flickered back to Grinâs blade again.
That was the last time he had seen a Legacy Treasure, and that one had forced him to integrate with a fake Greed Seed. Could it be?
Sylasâ heart skipped a beat. Was this maybe a method of circumventing his bodily weakness with his Rune Mastery?
If he really did treat this crystal like it was some sort of external treasure, then poured the best Runes of the F-Grade he had into it before integrating with itâŠ
What would happen?
Would he be able to improve his limits? But what exactly would that mean? It wasnât like he could elevate himself beyond a D-Grade Race with mere F-Grade Runes, no matter how many 100 Foundation ones were in themâŠ
Not to mention the fact it had taken him months of building, practice, and foundation just to build this one perfect Glassvolt Rune in the first place.
Plus, it was a Legacy Treasure. That meant that he couldnât just randomly throw Runes into it and hope for the best. They had to build off of one another. They had to be cohesive, together. They had to truly be of one mind and body.
That was what would make things work properly. Without it, he would just be running in circles.
But⊠this was a game changer. If he could really use this Legacy Treasure like this, then maybe his path to forming a Human Rune Armor was far closer than he originally thought.
Sylas closed his fingers over the crystal. This was what he was looking for, wasnât it? Something that would allow him to turn his intelligence into strength and foundation.
It was right here for the taking. What right did he have left to complain?
âHow much would it take to learn everything I could about this?â Sylas asked.
âOne Gold Gene is enough.â
âOkay.â
Sylas nodded. It seemed he would have to do his best to get his hands on another Gold Gene very soon. Of course, heâd definitely have to get more than just one, because after his recent Gene Class upgrade, wellâŠ
He was in dire need of more, because his healing factor had just tanked once again.
Unfortunately, the Golden Grove definitely didnât have them in large supply.
Even worse, there was definitely no way he would get his hands on the sheer number of Legendary Genes he would need if his two Gene Classes reached that stage as well. But⊠one problem at a time.
Sylas put the crystal away. Now, there were just three items left. Looking at the list of them, Sylas chose one and watched it manifest.
A tome fell from thin air, and Sylas caught it. It had a great heft to it, but what was more shocking was that it seemed to be growing heavier as time passed.
No, it wasnât a factor of time. Sylas could feel that it was subtly pulling at him, taking into something deep within his body.
Astral Stutter? Sylas thought. It was pulling on his spatial Progenitor Flame Ability? Why was that? And why would that make it heavier?
Sylas wanted to move to the page to open it, but the quickly changing weight of the tome was likewise making the front cover heavier.
âItâs not weight. Its mass is changing. Its literal imprint on the Mesh of Reality is increasing at a pace that I canât quite keep up with⊠itâs locking me in placeâŠâ
Sylas didnât really know what was happening, but despite the cover being too heavy for him to open, he was still holding the tome up as though it wanted him to feel its mass and presence, but didnât want to destroy him.
And then it all stopped.
