When I entered Pirates of the Caribbean, warm sunlight poured down, dazzling my eyes.
"So this is the Caribbean. The weather's great."
The movie's story starts when the protagonist, Henry, meets Salazar, so I had some time.
So I decided to go with the concept of a noble scholar from abroad. The setup fit. I changed into the suit I got in KonoSuba first. The clothing style was similar, so it shouldn't be a problem.
Then I took out [Golden Denden] from my inventory. Right now I only had gold bars, no gold coins, so it'd be hard to spend money in the Pirates of the Caribbean world.
[(S) Golden Denden]
Shake it and gold coins come out. (If not the owner, consumes luck.)
"Now that I have [Status Immunity], I should be able to use it without consuming luck even if I don't use a [Penalty Removal Ticket], right?"
It was an EX ability, so it should work, but with [Golden Denden], the cost wasn't a status effect but luck, so I wasn't sure. I didn't have another item with a cost like this to test it on either.
If I used it without a [Penalty Removal Ticket] and my luck got reduced, that'd be a disaster. Luck couldn't be raised with points, so gambling like that was too risky.
"I have two tickets, so I'll just use one."
I applied a [Penalty Removal Ticket] to [Golden Denden], confirmed that (consumes luck) disappeared, and then shook the Denden.
Clink! Clunk!
"Oh~! It's coming out!"
Gold coins started piling up on the ground. Once a decent amount piled up, I put them in my inventory, shook it again, and when it piled up again, I put them in again, repeating the grind. I stood there alone in the forest shaking the Denden for a whole hour.
"Damn! Anyone seeing this would think I'm doing some ancient ritual."
After shaking it for an hour, I had about five sacks' worth of gold coins. I wouldn't run out of gold coins now.
Now I went to town and used the gold coins to buy three healthy male slaves and two female slaves to fit the noble concept, plus clean clothes for the slaves to wear, a few luxurious suits for myself, and groceries.
But there was one problem. Maybe because of the era's culture, everyone's mouth stank like shit. These crazy people had no concept of washing.
Even people wearing fancy clothes were dripping with grime. Women were no different—their body odor mixed with perfume, creating an indescribable, nauseating stench.
I had no choice but to walk the streets covering my nose with a handkerchief.
"Ah! Fuck, seriously! Europeans act all refined and noble but I'm gonna suffocate from the smell."
I bought a large two-story house and furniture a bit away from town, called the slaves over, made them clean the house, then assigned rooms so they wouldn't be uncomfortable.
"You guys will live in this house from now on. I go out often, so don't cause trouble, and tell me if you're running low on food."
"Yes, Master."
I spent the day like that, and the next day I took one (slave) servant with me and went to find the town mayor.
I needed to get the female lead, Carina, out of prison.
"Hello. I'm Jin, a scholar from Russia."
That was the setup.
"Ah, welcome, Scholar Jin. What brings you here?"
The mayor was working, writing something.
"It's nothing else, but I need an assistant. I heard there's a smart young lady named Carina Smith. I was wondering if I could hire her as an assistant."
"Carina Smith is a witch. Impossible! She's currently imprisoned. And she'll be executed in a few days."
"I heard that story too. I heard she's an astronomer. She drew astronomy charts and was mistaken for using strange witchcraft."
"Do you have proof?"
"I do. If you take the drawings found when Miss Smith was captured to an astronomer, you'll know. I think the town has suffered a lot from pirates and needs someone to take the blame."
Carina was an orphan with no background, so she was an easy target. The mayor looked a bit flustered but spoke firmly.
"Even so, I can't release someone who's been tried and sentenced to execution."
It didn't sound like words would work.
"I'm not asking you to release her for free. I'll pay bail."
I placed one gold bar on the table.
"And this is for your trouble writing a certificate guaranteeing Miss Carina Smith's innocence."
I placed another gold bar next to it. The mayor swallowed at the sight of the gold bars.
"And this is a donation I'm giving for the town's development!"
Finally, I placed one gold bar on top of the other two like a pyramid.
"What do you think?"
The mayor pretended to ponder and said,
"Even so, it's difficult to release someone sentenced to death..."
He said that, but his face was full of greed, clearly wanting more. It was ridiculous, but I'd be taking it all back later anyway, so I decided to give one more.
"Ah~! I forgot your fee for officially certifying it."
Saying that, I added one more. Then the mayor's face brightened and he grabbed my hand and shook it.
"Carina Smith is innocent. I'll process it right now."
In this era, there really was nothing money couldn't do.
I received Carina's certificate of innocence from the mayor and was escorted politely to the prison where she was held.
Carina was writing something on the wall even in prison. Looking closely, she seemed to be calculating star positions. Probably to find Poseidon's Trident.
"Miss Carina Smith!"
When I called her, Carina stopped calculating, turned around, and was startled to see me. Her face reddened and she stared at me for a long while.
I was also surprised at how beautiful Carina was. With distinct features and piercing blue eyes, she had the face of a typical Western beauty, but with a girl's innocence added in.
She's prettier than I thought...
We stood there like that for a while until the soldier who escorted me coughed.
Ahem...
"Ah! Right, I'm Jin, a scholar from Russia."
"Yes, I'm astronomer Carina Smith."
Even though it was a prison, Carina gave a polite greeting, holding her skirt slightly. She was acting like a tomboy in the movie.
"It's nothing else, but I need an assistant. I paid your bail, Miss Carina Smith. And here's the certificate of innocence from the mayor."
When I showed her the certificate, Carina was shocked and asked again, disbelieving.
"The mayor who made me a witch gave me a certificate of innocence?"
"Yes, you're innocent now. Please come out."
When the prison door opened, Carina came out looking bewildered.
"You must not have eaten properly in prison. Let's go get something to eat first."
"Ah! Yes... The mayor let me go... Is this a dream?"
Carina was still mumbling, unable to believe it.
I took Carina to a fancy restaurant and ordered food. She seemed to have something to say, glancing at me and fidgeting.
"Hm? What is it?"
"Um... I'm sorry, but I don't think I can work as your assistant. There's something I absolutely must find..."
"I know. But if you stay with me, you'll find what you're looking for, and you'll also find something more precious that you don't even know about yet."
"Huh? What do you mean by that?"
"Let's eat first. You'll understand in time."
After eating, we bought some groceries and returned to the house. I told a servant to rest and showed Carina to the room where she'd stay.
For the next few days, Carina rarely went out and just stayed in her room doing calculations. But we ate together, took walks, and got pretty close.
"Carina, I'm going to town today."
"Yes~ Got it. And please buy me a marine chronometer."
"Okay."
Today was finally the day the town bank opened. And it was also the day Jack Sparrow would rob it as soon as it opened.
I changed clothes, put on a mask, and waited near the bank until it got robbed.
After the mayor's speech, the bank vault opened and Jack suddenly appeared. At the mayor's order, soldiers fired guns. Taking that as the signal, Jack's crew started moving the entire bank using ropes they'd connected beforehand. The architecture of this era was incomprehensible. That thing was moving.
I confirmed Jack dodged the bullets and ran into the buildings. I immediately entered the vault, swept all the gold bars, coins, jewels, everything into my inventory, and bolted.
The vibrations were going to make all the gold and stuff fall out anyway, so Jack wouldn't get any. Better for me to take it.
After that, I kept my promise to Carina and bought a marine chronometer and returned home.
"Was there a loud noise in town? What happened?"
"Pirates robbed the bank."
"There were a lot of soldiers, and they still got robbed?"
The soldiers were idiots, really.
"Yeah, well. Anyway, here's your marine chronometer."
"Thank you~"
Carina hugged me and kissed me on the cheek. Normally I'd feel good getting a cheek kiss from the opposite sex, but Carina hadn't washed either, so her breath stank.
Ugh... Damn! Shit breath...
I tried not to show it and smiled like I was happy.
Ding~!
[(F) Acting] acquired.
The next day it rained. Today was the day I could get one item I wanted.
Even though the bank was robbed, with no money or jewels in the vault, Jack Sparrow was abandoned by his crew and went to the town tavern.
With no money, he couldn't buy alcohol, so he made the foolish choice to trade his important item, the compass, for booze.
It was a good opportunity for me. I sat in the tavern waiting for Jack.
After a while, Jack came in covered in mud like he'd had a mud pack. He traded the compass for alcohol and left.
I immediately gave gold coins to the tavern owner and bought the compass.
[(A) Jack Sparrow's Compass]
Points to what the owner wants most. (If you betray the compass, you will be cursed.)
I waited for this moment because of the 'owner' setting. It seemed you were only recognized as the new owner if the previous owner transferred or sold it.
"Whew~ Got one."
Jack was being dragged away by the navy outside the tavern, but I ignored him and returned home.
"Carina, tomorrow we're going to meet someone important. So let's go buy clothes together."
"Yes, okay. But who are we going to meet?"
"Someone who will help with our work, and someone important to you too, Carina."
"You always say things I can't understand. Anyway, got it."
The next day, I took Carina and all the servants to town. I bought a ton of groceries, gave them to the servants, told them I might not be home for a while so take care, gave them emergency funds, and sent them back to the house.
Then I went to a fancy clothing store with Carina and bought several comfortable outfits and some lavish ones for her.
"Jin! How's this?"
"Oh~ That's pretty?"
"Tch! You've said that three times already."
"Carina, you're pretty in anything."
Carina pouted but smiled slightly, pleased by my words.
"Stop, you're embarrassing me."
At that moment, the female shop owner said enviously,
"What a couple overflowing with love. Just looking at you makes me feel good."
Carina heard that and her face looked like it would explode from blushing. She fanned her face with one hand because it was hot.
"Ahem... The weather's hot today."
Carina just wore the outfit she liked best, and we had the rest of the clothes sent to the house. Then we stopped by a weapon shop briefly to buy a sword.
We went to the dock, rented a large ship, and started sailing following [Jack Sparrow's Compass].
"Where are we going?"
Carina asked, getting anxious since I wasn't saying anything.
"To meet someone. I can't tell you right now. Just trust me."
After sailing for about three hours, the Queen Anne's Revenge finally came into view.
"Hic! It's Barbossa!"
"We're all dead."
Seeing the Queen Anne's Revenge, the sailors panicked. I went to the captain and told him nothing would happen, and once we boarded the Queen Anne's Revenge, to turn back immediately.
The Queen Anne's Revenge was approaching fast, having spotted us too. When we got close enough to jump, I held Carina and jumped onto the Queen Anne's Revenge.
"Kyaak~~!"
Barbossa's crew suddenly charged at us with swords drawn, but I quickly put many sailors to sleep with Sleep and knocked others out by hitting them with the back of my sword. Barbossa shouted urgently.
"Stop!! Stop!!"
Only then did the crew lower their swords.
"Who are you? Why can you kill the sailors but only make them faint?"
"I didn't come to fight. And I want something."
"What is it?"
"Your sword!"
Barbossa burst out laughing at my words. Then the crew around him laughed too.
