"Wait... how is this even possible..."
Thor stared at me, stunned. I know I'm not exactly noble.
Back before I came to the Marvel universe, I once pulled Mjolnir from the random gacha in Life of Pleasure.
Naturally, I could lift it easily this time too. That's because I have [(EX) Status Immunity], [(EX) Stealth], and [(A) Indomitable Spirit].
Even if [(EX) Status Immunity] didn't work, [(EX) Stealth] lets me hide all my information, so Mjolnir can't read any darkness inside me. On top of that, with [(A) Indomitable Spirit] strengthening my mentality, of course I'd be acknowledged.
Honestly, seeing Thor act like that made me want to mess with him a little. And maybe drop him a hint. The moment I tried to set Mjolnir back down, Thor and Phil Coulson rushed to stop me.
"Wait~!!! Hold on, handsome friend!"
"Chairman Jin! Please wait!!"
"Hm?"
When I picked Mjolnir back up, I heard sighs of relief from everyone around me.
"Whew..."
"I'm a swordsman, not a hammer guy though?"
The second I moved to set Mjolnir down again, chaos broke out.
"Wait!! Wait!!! Calm down, friend."
"Just a moment!! Chairman Jin!!"
This is actually pretty fun. I really am far from noble.
"Hold on! Just keep holding it, handsome friend. When I signal, slowly hand it over to me."
Since I was still holding Mjolnir, Thor started swinging his arms around, warming up as if to receive it. Once he looked ready, he took his stance and held out both hands.
"Okay! Now slowly~ hand it over, real slow."
Just as Thor said, I slowly lowered Mjolnir onto his outstretched hands.
"Urgh!"
Thud!
The instant I let go of Mjolnir, Thor couldn't hold it and dropped it immediately.
"Wait, why is it doing this?"
At that moment, Phil Coulson approached me too.
"Chairman Jin, are you able to lift that?"
Phil Coulson said, gesturing toward Mjolnir. I lifted it again without issue.
"I didn't know either. There must be some kind of requirement to wield it."
"What would that be?"
"That's what I don't know either."
Then Thor spoke up, his face filled with despair.
"I think Father put an enchantment on Mjolnir. Dammit."
Thor vented his frustration by kicking at the dirt, as if it were to blame.
"Let's just say he's mentally unwell for now."
"Pfft... ahem... Understood."
I couldn't help but laugh at Phil's misunderstanding, but I held it in and just nodded. An agent came over carrying a silver metal case.
"Then could you please place the hammer into this container?"
"Of course."
The agent opened the case. The moment I placed Mjolnir inside and let go, the entire case dropped straight to the ground.
"Whoa!"
Clang!
"Hmm... Looks like no one can move this except Chairman Jin."
Phil Coulson said, studying Mjolnir on the ground intently.
"We'll leave it here for now and report to the Director. It's almost mealtime, so let's have our guests eat first."
"Understood."
I took Thor outside. He looked troubled, lost in thought.
"What makes you different from me? I just don't get it..."
"Your father probably wanted something from you."
"Aren't you tempted by Mjolnir? It's the weapon that symbolizes the heir to Asgard's throne."
"I don't need that kind of thing."
Hearing my words, something seemed to click for Thor.
I'd already synthesized Mjolnir into my 'Lightning God's Longsword', and while I could take another, Thor has a lot of work to do out in space. Like dealing with enemies such as Hela.
If I took Mjolnir now, all those threats would come straight for Earth, so I had no intention of touching it.
Thor seemed to be misunderstanding something, but it looked like a positive misunderstanding, so I decided to leave it be.
"We've used up some energy, so let's go eat."
"Yeah."
I led Jane's group and Thor to the dining hall. Jane and her team said they'd already eaten and were just having coffee, while Thor joined me for a meal.
"Come to think of it, we haven't introduced ourselves. I run several companies. My name is Jin."
"I'm Jane Foster, an astronomer."
"I'm Professor Erik Selvig, astrophysics at Culver University. Nice to meet you. It's an honor to meet a celebrity."
"I'm Darcy Lewis, an intern. My three sizes are..."
Before Darcy could finish her nonsense, Jane quickly covered her mouth. She wasn't like this in the original story. Something about me being here changed her weirdly.
"I am Thor Odinson, son of Odin Borson, King of Asgard and its prince."
When Thor introduced himself, Dr. Selvig looked at him like he was staring at a lunatic. But Jane's eyes sparkled with curiosity as she gazed at Thor's face. Darcy... was overwhelming.
"Ah! Thank you for helping us earlier, Chairman Jin. If it weren't for you, all our research data would've been confiscated without us even knowing why."
Jane thanked me for what happened earlier. Up close, she really was beautiful.
"It's nothing. They were handling things poorly, so I just stepped in."
Just then, Phil Coulson entered the dining hall and approached us.
"We've received approval. We're moving forward with cooperation. Dr. Selvig, we'll be assigning researchers to assist you starting tomorrow. Funding and equipment will be provided as well."
Jane asked Phil pointedly.
"We don't have a choice, do we?"
"That's correct. If you refuse, we'll have no choice but to confiscate everything."
Dr. Selvig tried to reassure Jane.
"Let's look on the bright side. They're offering funding."
"Also, this matter requires security clearance, so please be careful not to leak any information."
Unlike the original story, things were actually working out fairly well for Jane's team.
"And Jin, could I have a word with you for a moment?"
"Of course."
Phil and I stepped outside the dining hall.
"The Director asked if you could assist with moving the hammer later."
"Will do."
It was a promise that wouldn't be kept anyway. I returned to the dining hall and spoke to Thor and Jane's group.
"I'll drive you all back to town. And Ms. Jane, could I speak with you for a moment?"
"Yes, Chairman Jin."
I called Jane outside the dining hall.
"Buy whatever that friend of his needs."
Just in case, I handed Jane a bag filled with several bundles of cash. Thor is a prince, and since he just arrived on Earth, he probably has no sense of money. Jane seemed like the most responsible person here to handle it.
"Are you sure you should give me this much?"
She looked surprised that every bundle was full of $100 bills. Four stacks of 100 bills each—over 50 million won in Korean currency.
"Don't just spend it on Thor. Use it for anything you need too. Consider it support funds, so use it as appropriate. And here's my card. If any problems come up, contact me. Don't show it to Darcy."
"Pfft... Sorry. Got it."
Even Jane couldn't hold back a laugh when I mentioned Darcy.
With that, I dropped Jane's group off in town and teleported back to my house on the island. Nothing major was happening with the company.
For two days, I trained with Natasha and checked in on Phil Coulson and Thor once a day to make sure nothing was wrong.
Thor and Jane were in full lovey-dovey mode, so I kept my distance to avoid interrupting.
I also saw Loki in passing but left him alone. Honestly, he's my second-favorite character after Tony, and I'd love to meet him, but he's essential for Avengers 1 to happen. Right now he's drowning in inferiority toward Thor, so I'll meet him another time.
Then on the third day, I went to SHIELD's temporary base and found the agents moving around busily. I saw Phil and walked over.
"What's going on?"
"A large electrical energy signature appeared and vanished suddenly. We're heading to the location now. Would you like to come?"
Finally, Thor's friends must have arrived—Sif and the Warriors Three: Hogun, Volstagg, and Fandral. And if they're here, the Destroyer won't be far behind.
"Let's go."
I went with the SHIELD agents to the site where Thor's friends had been summoned. When we arrived, the location was surprisingly close to Puente Antiguo, the town where Thor and Jane were staying.
'If I'm not careful, the town could be leveled just like in the original story.'
SHIELD agents were scanning a large circular pattern on the ground with various devices. Phil turned to me, wondering if I knew something.
"Do you have any idea what this is?"
"Looks like something was summoned here."
At that moment, dark clouds gathered above the circular pattern and began to rotate slowly.
"Something's coming!! Everyone, evacuate!!"
At my shout, the SHIELD agents backed away from the pattern. I pulled a staff-shaped sword from my inventory. My plan was to hold the Destroyer here and keep it from reaching the town until Thor awakened.
The rotating clouds spun faster and faster, then suddenly stopped. A massive silver object plummeted from the sky and slammed into the ground. Dust exploded outward in a huge cloud.
A moment later, as the dust began to clear in the wind, the enormous form of the Destroyer slowly came into view. It had to be at least three meters tall.
"Hey! You are in possession of an unregistered weapon."
Phil Coulson said, mistaking the Destroyer for some kind of Iron Man-style weapon. In response, the Destroyer's face suddenly opened, its body glowing red as it prepared to fire a heat beam at Phil. I moved fast and kicked the Destroyer's face aside.
Thwack!
With its head knocked off-angle, the heat beam fired wide and blasted a small nearby hill instead of the agents.
Kaboom!
The hill vanished in a massive explosion and dust cloud.
"Agent Phil Coulson! Take your agents and evacuate the town! I might not be able to handle this thing either."
Hearing the gravity in my voice, Phil understood the severity of the situation and quickly moved his agents toward the town.
I coated my staff-sword in Armament Haki, turning it black, and channeled mana into it. In the comics, the Destroyer's entire body is made of Uru, and I'd be in trouble then. Thankfully, this is the movie version, so it's been nerfed and isn't Uru. I can handle this.
As the Destroyer's face opened again and its body glowed red to fire another beam, I used [Flash Step] to close the distance and slashed at its leg. The Destroyer toppled forward and fired its beam into the ground where it had been standing, launching itself backward and tumbling across the dirt.
Boom!
Crash, roll, thud~!
"Did I go too hard on it?"
I was worried I might've damaged the Destroyer so badly that Thor wouldn't be able to awaken, but it got up like nothing happened. The leg I'd cut was already reattached, completely restored.
"Guess I worried for nothing."
Not wanting to break it too soon, I stopped cutting and pulled out cards instead. I started circling the Destroyer, throwing cards to buy time.
The Destroyer tried its best to hit me as I weaved around, but it was too slow, and with [Observation Haki], there was no way it could land a hit. The area was getting devastated by my exploding cards and the Destroyer's heat beams.
Boom! Bang! Vzzzt~! Kaboom!
Iron Monger took significant damage from my card explosions, but the Destroyer only got slightly dented. Nothing major. Seeing that, I had to admit it was slow but incredibly tough. And it could regenerate from damage too.
"Speaking of which, when is Thor getting here?"
I glanced around since he was taking forever, and in the distance by the town, I saw him standing with Jane, holding hands with her while watching me fight with his friends. No intention of helping whatsoever.
"Oh, you guys have got to be kidding me!!"
Pissed off, I reached out and called Mjolnir. Dodging the Destroyer's heat beams, I waited until Mjolnir flew into my hand. Gripping it, I charged the Destroyer.
It swung a fist, but I easily dodged and started wailing on it with Mjolnir like a madman. I felt stupid for holding back earlier so it wouldn't break before Thor showed up.
