Chapter 289: Resemblance And Encounter
With his sisterâs words in mind, Minosâs expression hardened.
And all of a sudden, Rael saw a faint trace of white mana leave Minos and enter the rat.
In the next moment, the rat began to wriggle uncontrollably, until it finally settled down.
Rael raised a brow, preparing to kill it.
Yet the rat suddenly began to dance around on both legs, causing Jane to let out a giggle.
âLooks like he got the hang of it,â she remarked with a smile.
âItâs a pretty cool skill,â Rael commented, a faint frown appearing on his face.
The two canât be related, right?
He didnât mean the siblings, but another person who described his childhood a few weeks ago.
Kareth, the Hollow King.
He was someone who played with toys, calling them his Hollow Servants.
When he finally began wielding mana, he got a skill similar to puppetry.
Finally, a few billion years later, he became the king of everything that was Hollow.
That was the gist of what Kareth shared.
âSay, Minos,â Rael muttered. âHave you ever called your toys Hollow Servants?â
Minos turned toward him with a confused look.
âHollow ServantsâŠ? Not that I rememberâŠâ
Rael nodded, yet his suspicion didnât fade in the slightest.
This memory record was being shown to him for a reason.
So for this kind of coincidence to present itself, Rael simply didnât buy it.
StillâŠ
âIs there a limit to how long you can control the rat?â he asked.
Minos shook his head.
âI donât see a limit. But there is a glowing little slot inside my mind. There are 10 slots in total, and the rat is occupying one of them.. .so Iâm guessing I can control up to 10 puppets before losing control,â Minos replied.
âI seeâŠâ Rael mumbled, then turned around with a slight smile. âLetâs be off then, shall we?â
The two siblings followed, and so did the rat, which walked on two legs.
Rael was a little creeped out, but a rat companion was a rat companion.
Still, these siblings acted surprisingly childish for their age.
After all, they were likely only a few years younger than him.
Maybe itâs because of how they livedâŠ?
Rael sighed.
Being rich mightâve made them too naive. But itâs fine, now that theyâre with me, Iâll teach them how stuff works.
Anyhow, the four of them slowly made their way through the apocalyptic streets, steadily approaching the Jade Palace.
It was completely abandoned, with corpses of both monsters and humans scattered alike.
They climbed the steps to the top.
He thought he might find some loot, but what he found instead was a man he had seen earlier, Bai Yun.
He was crouched down beside a corpse, looting it.
Then he turned his head toward Rael, his grin widening
âWell, well, well. You survived,â Yun said coldly. âDid you see that Wyrm, by the way? Which direction did it fly to?â
âHmm⊠I wonder?â Rael tilted his head. âSo far, youâre the biggest pussy Iâve seen since the apocalypse started.â
Yun raised a brow. âIs that supposed to be a compliment? You do know why I did that, right?â
He cleared his throat.
âThere were some very strong people there, and I eliminated them accordingly. Now they donât pose a threat to me.â
âSo you killed people who couldâve been your allies just because youâre insecure and paranoid,â Rael translated. âThatâs pretty fucked up.â
Yun shrugged.
âInterpret it however you wish. But the fact that you remained might be a little trouble.â
With those words, he stood up, stretching his back and shooting Rael a cold look.
âAfter all⊠my image as the strongest ranker and the future leader of all of humanity must not be tarnished, so excess strings like you shall unfortunately be culled.â
Immediately, a barrier appeared around Raelâs neck, slightly tightening.
Rael didnât wait to be killed as he kicked off the ground, arriving in front of Yun in an instant.
He raised his sword as if preparing to swing.
But instead, Rael hurled the sword straight at Yunâs heart.
Unsurprisingly, the sword was blocked by the barrier, but it managed to throw off Yunâs focus just enough for the barrier around Raelâs neck to dissipate.
At the same time, Rael realized something very crucial.
âYou can only have one barrier up at a time, eh?â Rael mused. âSo you can either defend or attack. No in-between.â
Yun stared back at him for a few moments, his expression remaining calm.
âAnd? What are you going to do with this information?â Yun asked as he reached for his back pocket, pulling out a staff.
Raelâs brows furrowed.
âI get that your name in Sketa Online is Wukong⊠but roleplaying in the apocalypse? Do you have another staff hidden up your ass in case you lose this one?â
That made Yunâs brows twitch slightly, but even so, he kicked off the ground, leaping into the air.
He raised his staff, preparing to slam it down.
But that was when an icy projectile came flying from the side, hitting Yun straight on the chest.
It didnât deal any damage, but it sure as hell managed to stop his advance.
Yet as he landed on the ground, he was met with a rat gnawing at his barrier with its tiny teeth.
ââŠâ
Yun clenched his fists, glaring at Rael.
âYou seem to be under the impression that these stunts of yours will do anything. They will not.â
He took one step forward, crushing the rat underneath his feet.
âYou, like the two cripples, wonât be able to break through my barrier. I can keep attacking until you exhaust your mana and stamina.â
His grin widened as he leaned forward, preparing to dash toward Rael.
However, Rael had something else in mind.
<Ding!>
<Pocket Gremlin has been activated!>
He used one of his main class skills, and in the next instant, a disfigured green gremlin appeared.
It looked around for a few moments, its gaze drifting toward Jane and Minos.
But that was when Rael suddenly bonked it over the head and pointed it toward Yun instead.
Rael cleared his throat and smirked as he gave the command.
âFetch me his items.â
