Following his decision, Rael and Lilith spent the next couple of hours just roaming around the palace, eating some snacks, and talking with William.
From the looks of things, the Demon Realm had been like this ever since Lilith had beaten him in a duel. It was chaos, to say the least, but since demons thrived in chaos, a lot of new forces had popped up out of nowhere.
A lot of powerful demons too, who had then gone on to become officials, or even demons who simply strove for greater power. In the broad sense, it was a blessing in disguise. They were loyal to themselves, but when it came down to it, they also recognized true power.
So all that Lilith would need to do in that scenario was teach them one grand lesson. It was a fun civilization and race in general. He kind of wished humans were like this too, but alas, they were too selfish and cowardly to improve like this.
Therefore, Rael put those thoughts aside, and while he was lost in his thoughts and in the conversation with Lilith and William, he remembered somethingâŠ
Or rather, someone.
Hey Gaia?
He waited a few seconds for her response, until it eventually came.
[Yes? What is it?]
Nodding inwardly, he asked:
Whereâs Anna?
For a brief moment, there was only silence. Frankly, he remembered Anna had gone to do something, but afterwards, where had she disappeared to? As his Shadow, he kind of expected her to just stay alongside him.
But now, she was neither in his Mind Realm nor anywhere in the universe. Heâd know, since he had just done a quick check.
[Hmm⊠Anna is somewhere,] Gaia said.
Rael almost scoffed.
You donât say. I know sheâs somewhere; I just donât know where.
[No, thatâs the thing. Sheâs somewhere. Iâm talking about the Dream Realm. People refer to it as âsomewhereâ sometimes,] she explained.
It was almost like she couldnât tell that he could tell apart lies. Scoffing inwardly, Rael decided to take a quick look at the Dream Realm, except he very quickly realized that it was difficult to navigate.
It had an infinite number of realms in it, and it was far bigger than all the realities he controlled combined. Despite that, Rael searched as thoroughly as he could, only to stop after a few minutes when he realized he couldnât find her.
Just like that, she had slipped out of his grasp and disappeared. What she was doing now, he had no idea. Regardless, Rael wasnât someone who wanted to keep total track of her or control her. Not since the moment he had freed her from Solenneâs grasp.
Sure, he had told her to stay with him, but he didnât really need her anymore. Nonetheless, Rael decided not to make too big a deal out of it as he eventually shut off his connection to the Dream Realm and returned to reality.
Couldnât find her. Welp. I guess she can do whatever she wants,
Rael said, and with that, he put his attention onto William once more.
âYou know, you might want to die or whatever, but what if I helped you get stronger without you dying? I mean, you want a total rebirth? I can give you that.â
William shook his head. âI donât want any help. So stop trying to butt in. Lilith had already tried before and then accepted it.â
Rael just shrugged at that and stood up from his chair. Seeing the slightly puzzled look on Lilithâs face, he assured her:
âIâm going to step out for a bit. Donât mind me.â
With that, he went ahead and entered the kitchen, making himself something nice. The palace was large as hell, yet it had no servants, except for the occasional imp or two that took care of the cleaning.
It was relatively modest, all things considered. Regardless, Rael proceeded to eat and check some of the other realities, only to realize that Nyx had already woken up. For some reason, she wasnât in the same state she had been every other time she woke up. He found it odd, but didnât comment on it.
But that was when he saw her slash once at the air and destroy a large chunk of the mansion. His brows furrowed in confusion, and without wasting a second, he teleported over to the mansion, restoring it and glancing over at Nyx.
âThat time of the month?â
Yet she didnât respond. Her eyes were a little cloudy, and from the looks of things, she wasnât exactly in total control of herself. Regardless, Rael was in a forgiving mood, so the first thing he did was snap his fingers, shackling her with chains that wouldnât break no matter how much she budged.
Afterwards, he approached her, tapping her head to see what was going on, only to realize that something had possessed her. It was some sort of soul that wasnât powerful in the slightest. The reason it even had any effect was because of Nyxâs sleep â she was completely vulnerable when she slept.
But what was going onâŠ? First, it was the Universe Destroyer, and now something like this? Someone was definitely out to get him, and at this rate, if Rael didnât figure out who it was, he might actually lose someone.
So with that in mind, Rael decided to tap his finger on Nyxâs forehead once more, erasing the other soul completely, and then watching as the life returned to Nyxâs eyes. She glanced around, puzzled. Seeing the shackles, a faint smirk appeared on her face.
âWell, well, well. Rael, I didnât think youâd have the balls to chain me down and do whatever you pleased with me. But I suppose, who am I to resist? Do whatever you want.â
Rael rolled his eyes. âRead my mind. Also, Iâm going to be away for a while⊠Iâll be monitoring the realities, and especially this one. Tell everyone else, including Zafira and the baby, to be very careful.â
As much as he hated it, he had to cut his date with Lilith short.
