Chapter 627: Fury, Friends, and Fisticuffs ( 627 )
Javier sighed and walked out of the room, one hand casually slipping into his pocket. His footsteps echoed steadily through the hallâcalm and composed.
Ferine quickly followed, matching his pace.
âIâm glad Fatherâs⊠back to normal,â she said softly, glancing down.
âWhen he had that thing you call a celestial⊠he never acted like this. He was always serious. Like⊠he kept thinking all the time. Heavy thoughts.â
Javier nodded, eyes ahead.
âYeah. Thatâs probably because the celestial was constantly talking inside his head.â
Ferine blinked.
âWait⊠it talks?â
âOf course. Thatâs what makes it dangerous.â
âItâs not just a source of power. It whispers. Twists thoughts. Even the strongest people start doubting themselves⊠or get consumed.â
Ferine walked in silence for a moment.
ââŠThatâs terrifying.â
Javier nodded.
âIt is. Your father is lucky he wasnât fully devoured by it.â
They reached a quiet hallway overlooking the city beyond the fortress walls. The air was crisp. The sky was finally clearâno smoke, no fire, no wyverns.
Ferine looked out, brushing her hair aside.
âThank you, Javier.â
Javier raised a brow.
âFor what?â
âFor saving my father⊠and this city.â
Her voice was soft.
âEven if heâs annoying⊠heâs still my papa.â
Javier looked out the window too.
âDonât thank me. After all, your father will still be punished for what he did.â
âMm⊠I know.â Ferine nodded softly.
âDonât blame me. The ones who want to punish him⊠are his old friends too. All of themâruler, king, queen.â
âMm⊠I know. Donât worry.â
Her voice stayed calm, but her gaze lingered on the side of his face.
Javier turned and began walking slowly down the hall. Ferine followed without a word, her footsteps quiet beside him.
Inside her mind, her thoughts swirledâwarm and grateful.
ââŠThank you, handsomeâŠ
For saving my father.
For protecting our people.
Even though youâre not one of us⊠not dwarvenâŠâ
She looked up at himâat the tall, composed human who carried so much weight on his shoulders without ever boasting.
A small smile formed on her lips.
She remembered what her father had joked earlier⊠about marrying her to this human boy.
She brushed the thought aside, cheeks slightly flushed.
ââŠHe really is handsome.â
ââŠMaybe not the worst idea.â
Meanwhile, in the third dwarven strongholdâ
âLiana? Why are you getting ready like youâre going somewhere?â Gloria asked, tilting her head as she watched Liana strap on her enchanted bow.
âI have a feelingâŠâ Liana said, tightening the strap on her thigh quiver, her smile calm but ominously dangerous.
ââŠthat young master is going to add another girl to his harem.â
Gloria blinked once⊠then smiled.
âAra~ I believe in you. Besides⊠every time you get that feelingâŠâ
She paused, brushing imaginary dust from her skirt.
ââŠit always ends up being true.â
Lianaâs eyes narrowed.
Her gaze slid sidewaysâtoward Felicia, who was lounging casually by the window.
âJust like when he added this stray cat,â she said sharply.
Feliciaâs ear twitched.
âMy~ what an elegant pointy ear, yet such a rotten tongue,â she said with a grin, then stood up, stretching leisurely.
âMaybe I should start calling you jealous dog?â
âWhat was that?â Lianaâs eyes gleamed dangerously.
âAra ara~ girls, please,â Gloria stepped between them with a graceful spin of her war hammer.
âLetâs not break furniture inside someone elseâs fortress.â
âIâm going,â Liana declared, tightening her gloves as she stood up with purpose.
Gloria, standing by the window, gracefully closed her book and smiled.
âAra~ then Iâll join you. I canât let our young master walk into trouble without proper escort.â
Felicia leaned forward, lazily twirling a strand of her silver hair.
âMe too,â she said without hesitation.
âIâve had enough sitting around. Itâs time I saw my future husband again.â
Lianaâs brow twitched, but she stayed composed.
âI believe young master already finished his task. And if we let him wander around without supervision⊠itâs a guaranteed disaster.â
Her eyes glinted dangerously.
âThat man canât be trusted⊠especially when it comes to women.â
Gloria chuckled softly behind her hand.
âAra, thatâs true. Just because heâs growing more handsome doesnât mean he can do as he pleases.â
âExactly,â Liana nodded, arms crossed.
âYou two are scary,â Felicia muttered, with a teasing smirk.
âStill⊠I get it. I wouldnât want another girl clinging to him either. I am his future wife, after all.â
âYouâre what?â Liana and Gloria said in perfect unison, heads turning like synchronized arrows locking on target.
Felicia just hummed innocently, her tail swaying behind her.
âLetâs go before someone dies in here,â Gloria said quickly, already opening the door.
Meanwhile, in the Beastkin Kingdomâ
Royal Palace, Courtyard Training Grounds.
A loud thud echoed as King Lioness, shirtless and muscular, drove his fist into a wooden training dummy. The splinters cracked under the force of his rage.
âWhen I see that stubborn dwarfâI punch him like this!!â
He delivered another blow, causing the dummyâs head to snap backward.
Near the edge of the courtyard, Veldrac, the Demon King with crimson horns and a mischievous grin, leapt into the air and spun.
âAnd when I see him,â he grinned, âIâll SLAP his forehead like this!!â
He landed with a loud smack, his palm hitting the air with a sharp snap.
âLet him lift that scruffy hair of hisâshow that shiny bald spot!â Veldrac chuckled.
âI swear Iâll leave a handprint tattoo!â
From her shaded throne under the sakura tree, Queen Mylezra crossed her legs elegantly, her expression calm but icy.
âAra~ how dare that fool touch a celestial without our approvalâŠâ
She raised her leg slightly.
âAllow me to kick his crotch. Hard.â
She smiled gracefully.
âRight where it hurts. Again. And again.â
Veldrac howled with laughter.
âYES! We take turns!! Letâs line up! That old dwarf wonât forget this for generations!â
Lioness snorted, wiping sweat from his brow.
âFirst I punch his gut. Then Veldrac slaps his forehead. Then Mylezra smashes his pride.â
âThatâs the plan,â Mylezra nodded like royalty.
âAnd if he dares make excuses, Iâll kick him in the mouth too.â
Garius, the Count of Armand, shook his head.
Standing tall with arms folded, he let out a sigh as he watched the chaos.
âIf you all do that⊠heâs going to die,â he muttered.
The rulers paused.
âNo no no!â Lioness quickly raised a finger, grinning.
âI already prepared the best healer unit! Every time he gets hit, the healer will cast high-tier recovery magic!â
Veldrac spun happily.
âHeck yeah! We slap, punch, kickâ and immediately heal!â
Mylezra faintly fanned herself, smiling with deadly elegance.
âDonât worry, Garius. I brought my elite healing priestesses. Theyâll be ready the moment his bones crack.â
Lioness burst into laughter.
âBesides! Gumarakâs head is thick! Even if we slap him a hundred times, itâll just bounce back!â
Veldrac pointed to the ground.
âI even had a demon healer prepare an enchanted cushionâjust in case he falls unconscious mid-punishment.â
Garius sighed again, eyes twitching.
âYouâre all crazyâŠâ
Lioness nudged Garius with a grin.
âDonât you want to think about his punishment, Garius?â
Garius narrowed his eyes, lips tightening as he considered.
âHmâŠâ He crossed his arms, deep in thought.
Then he looked at Veldrac.
âI like Veldracâs idea. Slapping the foreheadâŠâ
âItâs simple. Direct. No lethal damage. But maximum shame.â
A faint smirk appeared on his face.
Veldracâs eyes brightened.
âRight?! Thereâs just something satisfying about the pop when palm meets bald foreheadââ
âHeâs not bald,â Mylezra reminded dryly.
âHe will be when weâre done,â Lioness chuckled, cracking her knuckles.
Garius tilted his head slightly.
âLet him keep the beard, at least. Itâs the only thing protecting his dignity.â
âDeal~â Mylezra smiled sweetly.
âForehead slaps, no beard shaving. Thatâs the pact.â
Veldrac jumped into the air and spun again.
âLetâs slap him until he swears never to touch another celestial again!â
âAgreed.â
Gariusâs tone was calm, but the glint in his eyes showed he wasnât holding back either.
