“I like hearing that. I’ll put them on then.” Yang Yushi said, picking up her two intimate garments and quickly putting them on.

“Why not put on the rest?” Song Xiaodong asked, looking at the outer clothes on the ground.

Yang Yushi replied, “You have to bathe too, right? I’ll help you, so your clothes don’t get wet.”

Song Xiaodong quickly said, “I don’t need it, let’s just hold on for two more days and wash up together when we get out.”

“No way, no way, you smell already. Being with you every day is unbearable; you need to bathe.” Yang Yushi’s attitude was firm.

Song Xiaodong hesitated for a moment, “Alright then, I’ll wash myself, I don’t need your help.”

“Without my help, how will you wash?” Yang Yushi asked quickly.

“I can wash myself.” Song Xiaodong said, jumping directly into the water.

“Ah!” Yang Yushi exclaimed, quickly running to the riverbank in a hurry, “Get out quickly, there are crocodiles here.”

Song Xiaodong said, “It’s okay, I can sense them before they get close, just stand there and don’t move.”

Yang Yushi paused, her eyes darting around, then quickly took off the clothes she had just put on, and with a splash, she jumped into the water. “You wicked man, since you have such skills, why didn’t you let me bathe earlier?”

Seeing Yang Yushi jump into the water, Song Xiaodong couldn’t just stand by; he quickly reached out to grab her arm to stop her from falling.

Then, somewhat sullenly, he said, “Didn’t you already wash?”

“Just pouring water can’t compare to soaking in it, right?” Yang Yushi proudly tilted her chin towards Song Xiaodong, then couldn’t help but say with satisfaction, “It’s so comfortable, really too comfortable, I can finally soak in the water.”

Song Xiaodong couldn’t help but smile bitterly, “Alright, alright, just soak a little longer then.”

Yang Yushi agreed, then squatted in the water. The water wasn’t deep here, just past the knees, and while most of her body was submerged in water, her chest remained above the surface.

Yang Yushi used her hands to splash water over herself, “So refreshing! Dongzi, you hurry and bathe too,” then splashed water towards Song Xiaodong.

Song Xiaodong quickly said, “Don’t make such a commotion. Didn’t you see the crocodiles? If you act like this, they might come over.”

Yang Yushi was startled, quickly freezing, looking around instinctively, especially at the water’s surface, as if any moment a crocodile head might emerge to bite her.

Only then did Song Xiaodong sit directly in the water. As a man, he naturally was not as meticulous as a woman and leaned back completely submerged in the water.

“Will there be any crocodiles?” Yang Yushi cautiously moved closer to Song Xiaodong, reaching out to hold his arm.

“Not yet.” Song Xiaodong said.

“Scared me to death.” Yang Yushi let out a sigh of relief, looking at Song Xiaodong like that was truly envious, but she couldn’t sit in the water because it was full of weeds and mud, unlike a stream filled with rocks.

But soaking like this was indeed very comfortable, especially looking at Song Xiaodong, a sense of inexplicable peace filled Yang Yushi’s heart; even though she knew there were crocodiles and such in the water, she no longer felt afraid.

Yang Yushi said, “Let me wash your hair for you.”

Song Xiaodong opened his eyes and glanced at Yang Yushi, then quickly closed them again, saying, “Okay.”

Yang Yushi glanced down at herself, a blush rose on her face, but she quickly laughed softly and said, “You’ve been staring for quite a while, and now you’re embarrassed to look?”

Song Xiaodong said, “It’s not embarrassment; it’s the allure of this half-covered state, too much of a torture.”

Yang Yushi indeed felt an impulse to take Song Xiaodong’s hand and let him touch her, but she was not an ordinary girl, so she restrained herself, knowing she had already gone overboard today and didn’t want Song Xiaodong to think less of her.

Her hands gently washed Song Xiaodong’s hair; neither spoke, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere without wanting to break it.

Suddenly, Song Xiaodong’s eyes snapped open, and he immediately lifted Yang Yushi, darting to shore.

The movement was so sudden that it scared Yang Yushi, and by the time she came to, she was already in Song Xiaodong’s arms, on the shore.

But before reaching the shore, she thought she saw a snake head, the size of a large bowl, emerge from the water and then retreat.

“Ah, was that a water python?” Yang Yushi shouted in surprise while hugging Song Xiaodong’s neck.

“Yes,” Song Xiaodong answered, letting go to put Yang Yushi down.

Yang Yushi’s feet touched the ground, but she kept clinging to Song Xiaodong’s neck, still distraught, saying, “Heavens, I didn’t feel anything. If you had been even a little later, it would have bitten me.”

Seeing Song Xiaodong remaining silent, Yang Yushi suddenly leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek, saying, “Thank you for saving me again. You’re really amazing—you can detect things behind me! Is this what Kung Fu does?”

“Yeah, it’s what you missed out on learning. Now, please get down, my lady.”

“Oh…” Yang Yushi then realized her position with Song Xiaodong, but when she let go of him, apart from feeling shy, she surprisingly felt an even stronger reluctance.

“Dongzi…” Letting go of Song Xiaodong, Yang Yushi waited for the water on her body to dry, finally dressed again, then glanced slyly at Song Xiaodong and said in a teasing tone, “You’re more animal than human.”

Song Xiaodong’s face darkened, “Is this really okay for you?”

Yang Yushi leaned in again and kissed Song Xiaodong on the cheek, saying, “I really admire you for restraining yourself. If not for seeing you… cough, cough, I’d almost think you had issues.” She glanced suggestively at a particular spot on Song Xiaodong.

Song Xiaodong felt awkward, “I’m perfectly normal. Otherwise, all my wives would have left long ago.”

Yang Yushi chuckled softly, “True, just love isn’t lasting, especially with all those wives of yours.”

“Alright, let’s stop talking about this and hurry up and go.”

Yang Yushi stopped joking, and with Song Xiaodong, shouldered their guns and embarked on the path of escape once more.

This country never had a well-developed economy or a large population to begin with, and now on this vast prairie, they encountered no one.

Additionally, they saw various animals, like long-necked giraffes, leisurely grazing zebras and antelopes, and agile springbok.

Yang Yushi now relaxed entirely, saying, “Dongzi, it feels like we’re on a vacation on the prairie.”

Song Xiaodong laughed, “It does feel good.”

Yang Yushi looked around, “But why haven’t we seen lions or leopards yet? Just herbivores—it feels like something’s missing.”

Song Xiaodong said, “Carnivores are rare; they don’t roam about randomly, making them hard to spot.”

“Oh, that’s a pity; I wanted to see them.”

Song Xiaodong smiled, “What’s important is not being mistaken for prey by them when they do appear; that’d be troublesome.”

“I’m not afraid with you around,” Yang Yushi laughed lightly, relaxed, but suddenly noticed Song Xiaodong’s face turn serious.

“What’s wrong?” Yang Yushi immediately sensed something amiss, her expression tensing up.

Song Xiaodong shook his head, “I really jinxed it. We’ve actually been noticed as prey.”
