"Well, we're in trouble now," Aiden muttered, his gaze fixed on the system notification that had just appeared before them.
Rey narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean by that, and why are you cursing?"
"Firstly, to answer your earlier questionâyes, everyone should've taken your warning seriously about being the Fifth. There's a crack forming in the veil that separates your world from external mana and system interference," Aiden explained, voice low and grim. "But they ignored it. Because youâre my host, you have access to higher privileges, and that made them skeptical. Unfortunately, the bad news is that the invasion process is accelerating. Based on my calculations, you have less than two years nowâmaybe even less."
Rey raised an eyebrow. "And what's the
good
news, oh wise seer?" he asked sarcastically.
Aidenâs eyes lit with a faint fire. âThe good news? Iâve located one of my comradesâright here in this city. And, lucky you, sheâs in the
same
factory where you found me.â
Reyâs voice jumped. âWait, waitâwhat did you say? That
factory
again? And donât tell me you want me to go in there... to retrieve your relic?â
Before Aiden could respond, the door to the boysâ washroom creaked open.
âHey, Rey? You in here? I heard your voice,â James called out, his footsteps echoing through the tiled space.
"Yeah, itâs me," Rey called back quickly. "Just... easing a stomach ache. Iâll be out soon."
âOh, alright. Just came to say Evan woke up. Said heâs fine. I was looking for you to pass the message. Anyway, Iâm off.â
As Jamesâs footsteps faded, Rey groaned inwardly, clutching his forehead.
âGreat... Heâs going to tease me for this for weeks...â
Indeed, in his panic at the sudden system message, Rey had locked himself inside the washroom stall to privately speak with Aiden. But now, he regretted it.
âShould I leave you to nurse your pride, or are you ready to listen?â Aiden asked, appearing in front of him with a sly grin.
âCut it out,â Rey snapped. âYou know the truth, so stop playing around.â
âAlright, alright,â Aiden said, waving a hand dismissively. âBack to business.â
Rey exhaled, annoyed. âDonât you think itâs a horrible idea? That gang is still hunting me. If I go back there, I might not come home at all.â
âYouâre not wrong,â Aiden said seriously. âBut finding my comrade will change everything. Sheâs not just a relicâsheâs
the
greatest weapon of all time. Known as <THE PRIME MAKER>. She helped our master rise to become the
God King
, a Rank Ten existence. If we find her, weâll have half the battlefield in our hands.â
Rey blinked. âWait. Youâpraising someone? Thatâs a first. And by the way, isnât the
good one
even scarier than the
bad one
?â
Aiden tilted his head. âIâm not sure I follow. Why would you say that?â
Rey crossed his arms. âWell, if I avoid this, I might die
after
a year and a half. But if I sneak back into that gangâs territory, I could be dead in
days
. Thatâs why the good one feels more dangerous.â
âAn excellent deduction,â Aiden said, nodding. âBut let me be clearâyou
donât
have another option. Either you choose the lesser evil⊠orâŠâ
Aidenâs expression turned devilish, his eyes glowing with a familiar gleam that sent shivers down Reyâs spine.
ââŠor Iâll make the choice for you.â
The memory of the pain from the previous night surged through Reyâs body. He flinched, involuntarily stepping back.
âI can make it ten times worse,â Aiden said casually. âAnd if needed, I can even take control of your body. So donât worry. Iâve got everything covered.â
ââŠWhat time do we leave, Sir?â Rey asked, forcing a smile that was more like a grimace.
âAh, you catch on fast,â Aiden smirked. âNo need for extra lessons. Thanks to your good behavior, Iâll give you a bit of grace. Weâll delay until tomorrow. On Wednesday the 18th⊠we move. Be prepared, got it?â
He flicked a spark of energy in his palm, just to emphasize the point.
Rey nodded quickly. âCrystal clear. Iâll be ready before you even ask.â
Without another word, Rey darted out of the washroom to find his friends.
Aiden chuckled as he faded and merged back into Reyâs body.
ââŠMaybe I scared him a bit too much,â he mused. âBut hey, discipline is important.â
Is it mere coincidence⊠or has the wheel of fate spun a new tale?
Only time will tell.
So stay tuned⊠because the truth is only beginning to reveal itself.
