Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Scum and Trash
After Cara Preston climbed out, she whimpered, "I can testify to this. Itâs true! Sister, you have to be honest. What youâre doing is just too much."
She was absolutely filthy, and as she drew near, Vera Xavier caught the stench of the sewer on her.
Vera Xavier narrowed her eyes. âLooks like Cara Preston didnât drink enough sewer water just now. She clearly hasnât learned her lesson!â
Cara Preston continued, "Even though Archer accidentally pushed me just now, Mom and Dad taught us from a young age to be honest, so I have to tell the truth. Itâs an absolute fact that you and Wesley Kane are married!"
"Did you hear that? Did you hear that!" Daisy Archer shrieked. "Vera Xavierâs own sister, Cara Preston, said so herself! This canât possibly be fake! Vera Xavier, stop going to school and come home with me!"
As she finished speaking, she lunged to grab Vera Xavierâs hand, but Vera dodged aside. "Archer, this is a society governed by law now. Arranged marriages are a thing of the past. Youâre taking this way too far!"
"What do you mean, *weâre* taking it too far!" Emboldened by Cara Prestonâs support, Daisy Archerâs voice grew even louder. "Youâre the one whoâs gone too far! You had a wedding banquet with my Wesley, you married him, youâve slept with him! Donât tell me youâve found a better catch and now you want to dump him? Vera Xavier, how can someone so young be so morally bankrupt!"
Hearing Daisy Archerâs words, Vera Xavier finally understood. Their goal today was to completely ruin her reputation.
In this day and age, a ruined reputation meant being scorned by everyone and finding it nearly impossible to get by.
A crowd of students arriving for school had gathered around them. Unaware of the full story, they listened with wide, curious eyes, murmuring amongst themselves:
"Vera Xavier? Isnât she that dark horse from Class Four? The one who supposedly used to get zeros on every exam?"
"Who else could it be? I figured that since she scored so well this time, she must be a decent person, but I guess sheâs not all that."
"She looks so innocent. Why would she do something like that?"
"Itâs like they say, you can know a personâs face but not their heart. Besides, her own sister is testifying against her."
Hearing the crowdâs chatter, Daisy Archer grew even more smug. "Even your own sister canât stand by and watch you do this! Vera Xavier, you are a true disappointment. If you come home with me today, Iâll let what happened before slide. But if you refuse, then Iâll have no choice but to go to your principal and get you expelled!"
Cara Preston sobbed, "Sister, I know you grew up in the countryside and that big family didnât teach you any better, but youâve returned to the Preston Family now. You are a daughter of the Preston Family, and a daughter of the Preston Family absolutely cannot do such despicable things."
"How am I being despicable?" Vera Xavier said coldly. "And whatâs wrong with growing up in the countryside? Country people know just as much about principles as you so-called city slickers!"
First High had many students from rural areas, and when they heard her words, a few of them actually cheered in support.
Vera Xavier added, "And another thing. You claim to be my sister, but every word you say proves you look down on me. Itâs obvious youâve colluded with these people from the Kane Family to ruin me!"
