Chapter 214: Chapter 214: Vicious Heart
But Vera would try. She knew he was the best person to her in the entire world, bar none.
The next morning, Vera Xavier got up bright and early. She didnāt make breakfastāand it was pointless to expect Rona Langdon to get up and make anyāso she planned to eat out.
To her surprise, Cara Preston was also up early and wanted to go to school with her. She even had the gall to say, "Sis, Iāve already used up my allowance for the month. Youāre the best to me, so can you treat me to breakfast?"
Vera said generously, "Sure!"
Cara hadnāt expected her to be so agreeable this time and was smug about getting to freeload a couple of bucks off her.
Vera found Caraās expression amusing. Caraās cunning was far deeper than Rona Langdonās, but after spending so long by her side, she had also developed a penchant for taking petty advantages, becoming exceptionally materialistic and greedy.
And the happier Cara was smiling now, the more miserably she would be crying in a little while.
Just as they were about to finish eating, Vera heard someone whistle nearby. She then saw Jack Judd and a few of his cronies lounging by the doorway. She glanced at him before going back to her breakfast.
Cara, however, saw her chance. Smiling, she said to Vera, "Sis, that tall, handsome guy is looking at you."
Vera ignored her, so she continued, "They were even making eyes at you just now. Sis, youāre so pretty, you get extra attention wherever you go. Iāll go over and say hi to them for you."
In truth, Cara had always been annoyed that Vera was far prettier than her, but now that she had ulterior motives, she figured it wasnāt such a bad thing.
Vera said nothing. As Cara walked over toward Jack Judd, she finished her bowl of congee, wrapped two fried dough sticks, three savory fried rings, and five servings of sticky rice with chicken in oil paper, and then told the owner with perfect composure, "Iām heading out. My sister will pay in a minute."
The owner recognized them, and seeing that Cara was still there, he gave a nod.
Cara walked up to Jack Judd and said, "Hey. My sisterās name is Vera Xavier. Sheās a senior in Class Four at Number One High. She doesnāt have a boyfriend right now, so if you guys like her, I can help you woo her."
Yesterday, Jack Judd had heard from Wesley Kane that Vera had a malicious sister. At the time, heād wondered just how malicious a young girl could really be. He even secretly felt that Veraās plan to deal with Cara was a little over the top.
But hearing Caraās words now, he felt Vera was being far too merciful. A black-hearted girl like Cara should be dragged out, chopped to bits, and fed to the dogs!
He flashed a wicked grin, reached out, and caressed Caraās face. "Tsk, tsk, what nice skin! Iām not interested in your sister. The one Iām interested in is you! Hey there, sweetheart. Come give big bro a kiss!"
Cara had thought she was perfectly safe as long as she was with Vera. She never imagined Jack Judd would be interested in *her*. A sense of dread washed over her. When she whipped her head around to look for Vera, she discovered she was already gone.
She quickly said, "Iāve got something to do, I have to go!"
As she tried to leave, the owner immediately grabbed her. "Hold on, you havenāt paid yet!"
Caraās face fell. "My sister is paying for breakfast!"
She had come today specifically to freeload off Vera, so she hadnāt brought any money. With the owner demanding payment, how was she supposed to pay?
