Li Mochan raised an eyebrow, a glint of sharpness in his gaze.
After the car drove away, Li Mochan finally withdrew his eyes.
He reached out to open the car door, and the woman sitting in the passenger seat was sleeping soundly.
Li Mochanâs lips curled into a smile, his little troublemaker seemed to have missed out on an interesting event.
Bending over, he brushed away the stray hairs on the womanâs face and gently pinched her clear, jade-like cheek.
"Time to wake up, lazy bug."
Ye Jiuliang murmured softly, opening her sleepy eyes.
"Weâve arrived already?"
Li Mochan grunted affirmatively, reaching over to unbuckle the seatbelt.
Having just woken up, Ye Jiuliangâs head felt groggy, and her steps uncertain as she got out of the car.
Li Mochan reached out to hold her, and seeing her rare bewildered state, he couldnât help but chuckle, "Do you want me to carry you?"
Ye Jiuliang instantly woke up, and meeting his smiling eyes, she quickly shook her head.
"Donât bother, Mingqian wouldnât want to trouble Master Li."
Still mouthy right after waking up, Li Mochan playfully scraped her nose with his finger.
They took the elevator straight to the floor and walked into the hospital room, where only Jiang Yisheng was by himself.
"Cousin, Jiuliang," Jiang Yisheng greeted them with a face full of smiles.
"Your complexion looks good today," Ye Jiuliang said with a light smile.
Jiang Yisheng curled his lips, "Does that mean I can be discharged today?"
Ye Jiuliang sat on the sofa, "Weâll see after the check-up, if thereâs no major issue, then you can."
At those words, Jiang Yishengâs eyebrows lifted in joy.
"Where did this candied hawthorn come from?" Ye Jiuliang, quick to notice, asked curiously about the paper bag on the table.
"Wen Rang brought breakfast and got it for me on the way." Jiang Yishengâs eyes flashed with discomfort, his words lacking confidence.
Li Mochan glanced at him sidelong, the curve at the corner of his lips turning more intriguing.
Not long after, Jiang Yisheng was taken away for a check-up.
The results came back without any major issues, so being discharged was indeed possible.
In the meantime, Veya called. Ye Jiuliang nestled on the sofa to answer the phone, while Li Mochan helped Jiang Yisheng pack his things in the side room.
After zipping up the backpack, Li Mochan raised his eyes to the person opposite him, putting on his shoes, and asked with interest, "Did someone come by after we left last night?"
Jiang Yisheng froze.
His head bowed, he struggled to put on his shoes. "No, why?"
Li Mochan continued, "On my way here, I saw someone on the street who looked a lot like Ji Mingqian."
"..."
It was over.
Jiang Yisheng swallowed nervously, lifting his head to meet those penetrating cold eyes, his heart leaping to his throat.
He struggled to maintain the lie, "Cousin, you might have seen someone else. Didnât he return to Country Y yesterday?"
"Perhaps," Li Mochan said with a smile, not pressing the matter further.
Jiang Yisheng breathed a sigh of relief. That was close.
They came out together, just as Ye Jiuliang was standing up, "Yes, weâll be there by afternoon."
"Okay, we got it."
After hanging up the phone, just as she was about to speak, her cell phone rang again.
Ye Jiuliang glanced at the caller ID, a shadow over her eyes.
She swiped to answer, "Xue Wu, whatâs the matter?"
"Master Jiu, thereâs a rumor going around. Itâs said that Master Li and Mo Su had some kind of romantic entanglement back at school," Xue Wu reported.
Romantic entanglement?
Ye Jiuliang narrowed his eyes, a cold glimmer flickering, "Anything else?"
"Rumor has it that Li Mochan canât forget his past with his ex-girlfriend, Mo Su, and thatâs why he named the MK Group. The M in MK stands for Mo," Xue Wu continued, recalling the gossip he had heard.
Ye Jiuliang smiled playfully. "As soon as Iâm not in the capital, people become restless."
Ex-girlfriend?
Still harboring old feelings?
It seemed Mo Su was planning to make a move.
"Iâve got it. Donât bother with it for now, just ensure the safety of Mo Garden," she instructed.
After hanging up the phone, Ye Jiuliang turned to Jiang Yisheng, "Are you all packed?"
Jiang Yisheng nodded, "Did something happen?"
"Your cousin has an ex-girlfriend now," Ye Jiuliang said, glancing sidelong at Li Mohan with a teasing look.
Li Mohan curled his finger and flicked her forehead lightly, "Nonsense."
"Ex-girlfriend?" Jiang Yisheng was astonished, saying blankly, "Other than you, cousin has never had a girlfriend."
Ye Jiuliang laughed out loud, "I was just kidding. Letâs go, time to go home."
Jiang Yisheng gave her a helpless look, knowing in his heart that something must have happened back in the capital.
...
Mo Garden.
In the living room, Old Madam Jiang slammed a tablet down on the table with a "snap."
Her face showed a hint of annoyance, "All these wild rumors spreading in disarrayâdo these people have nothing better to do than make things up?"
"Mom, those rumors online are just for reading; donât take them seriously. Itâs not worth it to get upset over them," Jiang Hai said leisurely as he made tea.
With Mo Suâs underhanded character, she would never catch Ahanâs eye.
"What if Xiaojiu sees this and gets upset?" Old Madam Jiang expressed her worry.
Veya laughed and handed Old Madam Jiang a cup of tea, "Mom, donât worry. You know how clever Xiaojiu is; she wonât take such petty tricks to heart. Sheâll handle it well."
Old Madam Jiang sipped her tea, "True, but these rumors are too exaggerated, just nonsense."
"Mom, relax. Xiaojiu and the others will be back this afternoon. Letâs cook something nice and have a good dinner tonight," Veya changed the subject.
Sure enough, upon the mention of Ye Jiuliangâs return, a smile immediately appeared on Old Madam Jiangâs face.
"Yes, we should make them a soup to nourish their health."
Elsewhere.
Having learned of the rumors online, Mo Chen didnât wait for class to end before he skipped and ran off.
He rushed home only to find no sign of Mo Su, with only Alei at home.
Surprised to see Mo Chen, Alei asked, "Young Master, why have you come back?"
"Whereâs my sister?" Mo Chen asked breathlessly.
"Mistress isnât home; she went to the company," Alei replied.
As soon as Alei finished speaking, Mo Chen turned to run, but just reached the door when Alei stopped him.
"Young Master, donât you have class today?"
"Alei, step aside. I need to find her and get this straightened out," Mo Chen said impatiently.
Those messy rumors were complete fabrications, and she was clearly intent on sabotaging Jiuliangâs relationship with Li Mohan.
Alei seemed stunned for a moment, then realizing the urgency of the situation, he was even less willing to let Mo Chen pass.
"Young Master, please heed my advice, go back to class and donât get involved in these matters. Itâs not your place to intervene."
No one could change the Mistressâs decisions; the Young Master would only get himself in trouble if he intervened now.
"It seems you are aware of this matter as well," Mo Chen said, his expression turning cold. "Alei, did you know my sister was going to do this all along? Are you involved in this?"
Alei hung his head, "Young Master, I can only follow the Mistressâs orders. Please, return to Beisen."
Mo Chen scoffed with a sneer, "Youâll follow her orders, but you can disregard mine, is that it?"
