Chapter 176: Chapter 176: This Is Not a Warm Lover
Summers held Crowe up to the screen and said dotingly, "Come on, Crowe. Say hello to everyone."
"Meow~" Crowe meowed obligingly.
To Summers and the audience, it was just an ordinary meow.
But Renee Jennings heard Crowe saying, "Summer, youâre an idiot! Youâve been tricked by a bad man!"
Renee Jenningsâs brow furrowed slightly, a hint of confusion in her eyes. "Crowe, who is this bad man youâre talking about?"
Summers blinked in confusion. "What bad man?"
There were 30,000 people watching the stream, and when they heard what Renee Jennings said, the chat exploded with excited comments.
[Somethingâs up!]
[Got my popcorn ready!]
[This is getting juicy!]
[Calling it now: Summerâs wedding is off!]
Summers felt a little uncomfortable seeing the viewersâ comments. She forced a smile and said, "To be honest with you all, my partner and I have already registered our marriage."
[Have the betrothal gifts been exchanged?]
[Girl, youâre being so foolish!]
[Speaking from experience, I really donât recommend registering the marriage before the banquet!!!]
[To be honest, I registered the marriage before planning the wedding too. But then we clashed with his family over the preparations, the wedding was called off, and we just got divorced...]
Seeing so much advice from people with experience, Summersâs heart sank, and a sense of unease shot through her.
She looked at the serious expression on Renee Jenningsâs face in the other half of the screen and asked nervously, "Streamer, what did Crowe say?"
"Summer, donât panic just yet." Renee Jenningsâs expression softened as she spoke. "Let me find out the details first, and then Iâll tell you. Is that okay?"
"Okay," Summers nodded.
Crowe realized that the other human on the phone could understand him.
He leaned closer, his round eyes fixed on the pretty human. "Can you help Crowe tell that idiot Summer something?"
Renee Jennings said seriously, "Of course. Go ahead."
Crowe began to meow, "One day, when Summer was away on a business trip, the bad man brought a little boy home..."
"Wait a moment, Crowe," Renee Jennings interrupted him. "Who is this bad man? Whatâs his name?"
Summers nervously clenched her hands, her lips pressed into a thin line.
Crowe said, "The bad manâs name is Caleb Hughes."
"Summer, do you know a Caleb Hughes?" Renee asked.
Summers felt her heart clench. "Caleb Hughes is my partner. Why?"
"Heâs the bad man Crowe was talking about," Renee Jennings said in a gentle voice. "Crowe, please continue."
Crowe blinked, glanced back at Summers, and meowed again, "Summer is a huge idiot!"
He looked away from her and back at Renee Jennings on the phone, continuing to meow, "Crowe heard that little boy call the bad man âDaddyâ."
Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow. Just then, Blueberry and Cici leaped onto her desk, settling down beside the phone stand.
She glanced down at her feet, where Bella and Pippi were lying lazily on the floor.
Sliderâs protest came from outside the room: "Family, Iâm being ostracized! I want to come into the room, too!"
Renee Jenningsâs lips curled into a slight smile. "Sorry, Crowe, one more interruption."
With that, she got up, left the room, and brought in the tank from the living room.
Slider was content now. "I knew it. Reneeâs love for me is the real deal."
Renee Jennings flicked the glass with her finger. "Alright, no need to butter me up."
Slider said leisurely, "Nonsense. Youâre not a piece of toast."
Renee Jennings: "..."
She returned to the screen and gave Crowe an apologetic smile. "Crowe, you were saying a little boy called the bad man âDaddyâ?"
"A child?" Summers looked completely lost.
"Yes," Crowe nodded his fluffy head. "The bad man called the little boy âson,â and the little boy asked the bad man..."
That day, Caleb Hughes had brought a little boy to Summerâs house.
"Daddy, when can Hugo be with Daddy every day?"
Caleb Hughes hugged his son and said dotingly, "Soon. Daddy wonât make Hugo wait too long. We just have to wait until after Daddyâs wedding, okay?"
"Daddy, why do we have to wait until after your wedding?" Hugo tilted his head, his little face full of confusion. "Canât I stay now?"
Caleb Hughes ruffled his hair and said with a smile, "After the wedding, your new mommy wonât have a chance to back out."
"But..." Hugo looked worried. "What if my new mommy doesnât like me?"
Caleb Hughes said, "How could she not? My son is so well-behaved. Who wouldnât like you?"
Hearing this, Hugo broke into a brilliant smile. "Daddy, when is your wedding?"
Caleb Hughes was also beaming. "Very soon. When your kindergarten lets out for summer break. You can come to the banquet then."
"Yay!" Hugo was thrilled. "But my teacher said kids canât drink alcohol."
"Then you can have juice."
"Daddy, will you let me meet my new mommy that day?"
"Maybe a few days later. Iâll tell your new mommy that youâre a child I adopted..."
As Summers listened to Renee Jennings relay the story, her heart pounded violently with anxiety, and her entire body began to tremble uncontrollably.
[Damn, that scumbag is vicious!]
[Is that bastard really so confident Summer wonât divorce him after the wedding?]
[Heâs probably counting on her being too embarrassed to get a divorce after having a big wedding with all her family and friends.]
[What century are we in? Divorce is no big deal nowadays.]
"Summer, are you okay?" Renee Jenningsâs gentle voice drifted over.
Summersâs brow was furrowed tightly, her voice choked with sobs. "I just remembered something. I told my partner I didnât want to get pregnant for a while, and he was so incredibly considerate about it..."
One evening, Caleb Hughes was lying on the sofa, holding Summer, and said gently, "Itâs okay. If you donât want to have children, then we wonât. We can just adopt one. To be honest, I really couldnât bear to see you suffer through a pregnancy. Itâs such an ordeal."
At the time, Summer had been incredibly moved by his words.
She had squeezed his hand, a sweet smile on her face. "Kyle, I always thought no man would be willing to go without having his own kids, so I was afraid to bring it up. I never imagined youâd be so considerate of my feelings."
"Youâre my future wife. Shouldnât I consider whatâs best for you?" Caleb Hughesâs voice grew even gentler. "Youâre so afraid of pain, and you value your appearance so much. You wouldnât be able to stand having a long scar on your stomach."
Summer hugged him tighter, her voice thick with emotion. "I must have done something amazing in a past life to deserve such a warm and loving partner like you."
Looking back on it now, Summers felt that she had been so stupid and naive.
"I was so stupid!" Summers said, filled with regret.
"Donât blame yourself," Renee Jennings comforted her in a gentle voice. "Heâs just an expert at deception."
[Yeah, Summer, donât blame yourself!]
[Heâs not a loving partner, heâs a damn sworn enemy!]
