Chapter 177: Chapter 177: I Must Get This Divorce
The more the composed Violet Summers thought about it, the more upset she became.
Her eyes were red as she sobbed, "I thought he couldnât bear the thought of me going through childbirth. I never imagined it was because he already has a son and doesnât need me to have one."
Sensing its ownerâs sorrow, the tuxedo cat rubbed its fluffy head against her chin.
"Silly Summer, donât be sad."
"How could he do this to me?" Violet was both angry and full of regret. "I never should have listened to him and gotten the marriage certificate that day!"
[Iâm one of those people who got screwed by getting the marriage license first.]
[Especially if you get the license before the betrothal gifts are even discussed. You can bet there wonât be a bride price.]
Renee said gently, "He thinks that once youâre legally married and the banquet is held, heâll have you completely under his thumb."
[What a devious bastard!]
[I feel sick all over again.]
Violet couldnât stop crying.
Renee spoke softly again, "Summer, what are your plans now? This wedding of yours..."
âIs she still going to go through with this wedding?â she wanted to ask.
[Girl, you can start preparing for the divorce.]
[My heart aches for Summer. Getting divorced right after getting married.]
[I actually think itâs a good thing she found out now. The banquet hasnât happened yet, so the losses are smaller.]
Summer looked at the comments through her blurry, tear-filled eyes and sobbed, "But then... wonât I become a divorcĂ©e? I donât want to be..."
Hearing this, Renee furrowed her brow slightly. "So you donât want a divorce?"
[No way. Sheâs not going to divorce him even after this???]
[Uh... Is she a glutton for punishment or something?]
"No, no." Summer quickly waved her hands and explained, "I was just lamenting. Iâm definitely going to divorce him. I canât accept that he has a son and deliberately hid it from me."
Renee quietly breathed a sigh of relief when she heard that. "Thatâs good."
Just as Summer was about to say something, a call came in.
It was from Caleb Hughes.
Summer was furious and didnât answer.
After rejecting the call, she told Renee, "That bastard just called me. I didnât pick up."
Renee smiled faintly. "You could always hear what he has to say."
"Okay." Summer nodded. "Iâll answer if he calls back."
The words had barely left her mouth when the phone rang again.
Summer made a phone gesture at the screen.
She answered, put it on speaker, and Caleb Hughesâs voice came through. "Babe, did the invitations arrive? Help me write out two and mail them."
Summer said coolly, "I donât have time."
Caleb Hughes asked in confusion, "What do you mean you donât have time? Isnât it your day off today?"
"Stop bothering me." With that, she hung up.
Back in the livestream, Summer sighed. "He called and told me to mail out two invitations. I told him I didnât have time."
Renee nodded slightly. "Are you planning to bring up the divorce in person?"
"Yes." Summer nodded. "The car heâs driving is mine. I need to get the keys back first."
[Smart girl!]
[Is Summerâs family better off than the scumbagâs?]
Summer saw the comment and replied, "I guess so. My parents are both teachers. His parents run a small convenience store."
[Your family background is great, Miss! Your parents are both intellectuals!]
[I feel like a lot of girls from scholarly families are very naive and easily deceived.]
Summer was reading the comments when she suddenly heard the sound of the front door opening.
She said nervously, "He must be here!"
Summer moved her phone to an inconspicuous spot and had just turned around when she saw Caleb Hughes walk in.
"See? Youâre fine," Caleb Hughes said, staring at her with displeasure. "And you made me come all the way back."
Summerâs expression was icy. "Give me the car keys."
"What do you need the car keys for?" he asked.
Summer sneered. "Do I need to explain myself to you for wanting my own car keys? Donât forget, my parents bought me that car."
"Whatâs with this attitude?"
"Give me the keys." Summer walked up to him and held out her hand.
Caleb Hughes placed the keys in her palm, frowning. "What is wrong with you?"
Summer clenched the keys, raised her other hand, and slapped him hard across the face.
"Are you crazy?" Caleb Hughes stared at her, stunned.
Summer lifted her chin. "Donât bother sending the invitations. And forget the banquet. Iâm divorcing you, and thatâs final!"
"What are you talking about?" Caleb Hughes frowned, annoyed. "Can you stop making a scene?"
"Me, making a scene?" Summer swung for another slap, but he caught her wrist this time.
"Summer Cole, what the hell are you doing?" Caleb Hughes gripped her hand, his voice laced with anger. "The deposit for the banquet is already paid! Iâve invited all our friends and family! What kind of stunt are you pulling now?"
Summer Cole shook him off, her eyes filled with contempt. "Then you can just change it to a party to formally introduce your son."
The color drained from Caleb Hughesâs face. "You... you... What nonsense are you talking!"
"Am I talking nonsense?" Summer Cole couldnât help but scoff. "Donât you have a son named Hugo? Quit the act. Itâs disgusting."
Caleb Hughesâs eyes darted around in a panic. "Who told you that? Itâs all lies! Theyâre just rumors!"
"Is that so?" Summer Cole laughed coldly. "Werenât you planning to wait until after our banquet, then find an excuse to âadoptâ a child, so your son Hugo could stay with you legitimately?"
Caleb Hughesâs pupils contracted, his face a mask of disbelief.
"You..."
"Are you wondering how I know all this?" Summer Coleâs face was filled with disgust. "If youâve done it, youâll leave a trail! Weâre going to the Civil Affairs Bureau right now to file for divorce!"
"Summer, donât be like this." Caleb Hughes immediately dropped to his knees in front of her. "I didnât mean to hide it from you. I only found out I had a son recently myself. I wanted to tell you, I just... I didnât have the courage..."
"Shut up!" Summer Cole refused to hear another word. "Thereâs no way Iâm not getting this divorce!"
With that, she grabbed her phone and walked into the other room. "Renee, everyone, thank you. Iâm going with this scumbag to get our divorce certificate. Iâll come back and share it with you all when I have it! Iâm disconnecting now!"
After Summer Cole disconnected, the audience cheered, eagerly awaiting her return with the divorce certificate.
"Summer is a brave girl." Renee glanced at the viewer count in the top right corner, her eyelashes fluttering as she tried to remain calm. "Iâm sure things will only get better for her."
One hundred and twenty thousand viewers!
âAre there really this many people not working at this hour?â
Renee didnât know that many of them were actually slacking off at work to secretly watch her stream.
She ate a few pieces of fruit and said calmly, "Time to connect with another random viewer."
This time, she connected with a viewer named "Bringing in the Wealth."
Judging by the username, she expected an older person, but when the camera turned on, it revealed a handsome, refined face.
[Whoa, itâs a cute guy~]
[Havenât seen a guy in a while. The streamerâs channel really does have more female fans.]
The young man, wearing a black baseball cap, greeted them shyly, "Hi, Streamer. Hi, everyone. Iâm Richie..."
