Chapter 220: Chapter 220: Calling Jaden Forrest
Evan Shepherd rolled and convulsed on the ground in pain.
āThis cruel, heartless woman!ā
Renee Jennings walked over and planted her foot on his chest, her voice full of warning. "Pay me back the three million within three days."
Evan Shepherd choked out in pain, "But you gave me that money willingly..."
Renee Jennings said coldly, "Get one thing straight. You *borrowed* that money from me."
"I donāt have the money," Evan Shepherd said, acting like a total deadbeat.
Renee Jennings pressed her foot down harder. "Cut the crap."
Evan Shepherd howled in agony. "Oww, owww..."
Renee Jennings ignored him and walked away.
Evan Shepherd stared at her back. āI canāt believe sheās become so ruthless.ā
āThree million... Where am I supposed to find that much money?ā
A red BMW sped through the night, the cityās vibrant neon lights painting a picture of dazzling prosperity.
Renee Jennings sat in the driverās seat, her fingertips tapping absently on the steering wheel.
She had previously gotten over three million from Jaden Forrest.
Now that she had money, it was time to pay him back.
It was the only way she would have peace of mind.
With this in mind, Renee Jennings pulled out her phone at a red light and called Jaden Forrest.
It rang for a long time before disconnecting automatically.
āDid he block my number, or is he just busy?ā
Renee Jennings typed out and sent a text message: "Send me an account number so I can pay you back the money I got from you."
Jaden Forrest didnāt reply until the early hours of the morning: "No need."
Renee Jennings called him right away.
He picked up almost immediately this time, a deep male voice asking, "What is it?"
Renee Jennings: "Send me your account number. Iām paying you back."
Jaden Forrest said coolly, "Donāt bother. That amount of money is nothing to me."
Renee Jennings: "..."
āDamn him. What a flex.ā
"I know youāre rich, but I donāt want to be in your debt," Renee Jennings said. "No more nonsense. Just give me the account number."
"Talk to Joel Joyce." Jaden Forrest was clearly out of patience.
Renee Jennings: "Fine. Iām hanging up."
Luckily, she hadnāt deleted Joel Joyceās contact information and texted him that very night.
Joel Joyce replied the next morning. When Renee Jennings woke up and saw the message, she immediately transferred four million to Jaden Forrest.
Her heart ached as she stared at her bank balance. Only a little over six million remained.
Renee Jennings sighed. āI really need to make some money.ā
[System 009: New Level 2 Mission Triggered: Collect the wishes of two small animals. Mission Rewards: Lizard Dictionary, 50 points, 500,000 cash. Mission Penalty: Persona Manipulation. Time Limit: 5 hours.]
Renee Jenningsās eyes instantly lit up.
āThis system is a real one,ā she thought. āThe moment I need to make money, it sends a gig my way.ā
Renee Jennings immediately got up, freshened up, ate breakfast, and returned to her room to start her livestream.
It was 10:30 AM. A minute after she went live, her viewer count had already broken a thousand.
Renee Jennings greeted them with a bright smile. "Good morning, everyone."
[Morning, Renee! You seem to be in a great mood today.]
[Streamer, how come you finally remembered us?]
[Can you please enable gifting? I want to send you presents and get you to notice me~]
[Yeah, we strongly demand you enable gifting!!!]
Renee Jennings thought about it, then enabled gifting, but she set a limit of three gifts per account for each stream.
[Only three times? Waaah, thatās not nearly enough!]
[In other channels, the streamer is always asking for gifts, but here itās the complete opposite!]
[Our streamer isnāt short on cash, her whole brand is just being capricious.]
Renee Jennings saw the bullet comments and thought, āWho says Iām not short on money? I am!ā
After chatting with her audience for a bit, she got to the point. "Alright, letās start the call-ins. Today, Iām going to collect the wishes of two small animals."
The first successful callerās ID was: FrenchFryGal.
A young woman with long, straight black hair appeared on the split screen, holding an orange cat.
"Hello, FrenchFryGal," Renee Jennings said in greeting.
FrenchFryGal gave a shy smile. "Hi, Renee. Hi, everyone. This is my cat, Sunny."
"Hello, Sunny." Renee Jennings looked at the orange cat in her arms. "Iām Renee. Itās nice to meet you."
Sunny meowed. "How nice?"
Renee Jennings arched an eyebrow and smiled. "As nice as when you get a delicious cat treat."
Sunny was stunned that she could actually understand what it was saying.
"Sunny, do you have a wish?" Renee Jennings asked. "Maybe I can help you make it come true."
Sunny blinked its big, round eyes and shook its head. "Cats donāt have wishes."
Renee Jennings blinked back and asked curiously, "Then do you have any dreams?"
"A dream..." Sunny thought for a moment before replying. "My dream is for my owner to pet me when she comes home every day."
"I understand." A gentle smile graced Renee Jenningsās features. "Iām sure your dream will come true."
She turned to FrenchFryGal. "Sunny hopes youāll pet it every time you come home."
FrenchFryGal froze for a moment, her mind flashing back.
Every time she got home, she would just flop onto the sofa and start playing on her phone.
Sunny would always try to come over and play, but after a long day at work, she never had the energy to entertain it.
[Cats get really lonely and bored when theyāre home alone.]
[Yeah, I have a cat too. On my pet cam, I see that besides sleeping, my cat just waits by the door for me to come home. It breaks my heart. I canāt quit my job, and I canāt take him with me, so I always make time to play with him for a while when I get home.]
FrenchFryGal read the comments, then looked down at the orange cat in her arms. Her eyes suddenly grew hot, and her voice choked with emotion. "Iām so sorry, Sunny. It was my fault for ignoring you."
Sunny meowed. "Itās okay, Owner. You donāt have to be sorry."
"How about you, FrenchFryGal?" Renee Jennings asked her. "Do you have any questions?"
FrenchFryGal thought for a moment, then said, "Iād like to ask Sunny... are there other areas where Iām not doing a good enough job?"
Sunny said, "No, Owner is already very good to me!"
Hearing Renee Jenningsās translation, FrenchFryGal couldnāt help but laugh. "Silly kitty."
She looked up at Renee Jennings. "Renee, thank you. I donāt have any other questions."
"Alright." Renee Jennings nodded. "I wish you and Sunny a happy life together. Goodbye."
[I canāt believe the first caller is done already!]
[Not super exciting, but it was very sweet.]
[Hope all the cat owners out there pay more attention to their petsā emotional needs.]
"Thatās right. You should always pay attention to your petās emotions," Renee Jennings said in a gentle voice. "Now, letās connect to our second caller."
The second successful callerās ID was: LycheeSoda.
An elegant and intellectual-looking woman appeared on the split screen. She was dressed in a modern Chinese style, and a large Golden Retriever sat beside her.
Renee Jennings smiled. "Hello, LycheeSoda."
"Hello, Streamer. My name is Lizzie." LycheeSoda smiled and ruffled the Golden Retrieverās head. "This is Potato. We found him when we were out buying potatoes."
Renee Jennings nodded and looked at the Golden Retriever. "Hello, Potato. Iām Renee."
Potato leaned in toward the phone screen and asked curiously, "My mom says you can understand dog-speak. Is that true?"
