Gu Yang had her suspicions but chose not to voice them. Instead, she held out a candied hawthorn and smiled. “Do you want it?”

Ning Shen’s eyes locked onto the bright red treat as he nodded.

Gu Yang felt a peculiar sense of déjà vu, as if she were walking a dog with a bone. She shook off the odd feeling and said to Ning Shen, “You can’t just take something without asking. You need to ask first.”

Ning Shen considered this for a moment and, finding it reasonable, called out, “Sister.”

Gu Yang was stunned.

Weren’t they at odds the last time they met? Now, Ning Shen was calling her “sister”?

More baffling was that Ning Shen was even older than her brother, Xiao Yize. How dare he address her as such?

Despite her surprise, Gu Yang realized that Ning Shen didn’t recognize her. His behavior seemed more juvenile, akin to a child’s.

The person before her bore a striking resemblance to Ning Shen, but his demeanor was vastly different.

This suggested two possibilities: This person could be Ning Shen’s twin with a mental disability, resulting in a younger mental state. He might be an alternate personality of Ning Shen, indicative of dissociative identity disorder.

Gu Yang leaned toward the latter explanation.
