Chapter 1017: Ning Jin

If it was a split personality, that would be interesting.
She just didnât know if it was a simple split personality or multiple personality. Before she transmigrated, Gu Yang treated patients with at most 24 different personalities.
Ning Shen stared at her and seemed to be a little anxious. âSister, I want candied hawthorn.â
Gu Yang stared at the person in front of him and used the tone of coaxing a child to say with a smile, âI can give you the candied hawthorn. Can you answer a few of my questions?â
Ning Shen nodded.
âWho are you?â
âMom calls me Jin.â
âYour name is Ning Jin?â
Ning Jin nodded. âYes.â
Gu Yang asked, âDo you know Ning Shen?â
âHeâs my brother.â Ning Jin frowned. âMy brother is a big baddie! I hate him! Sister, can you not play with him?â
âOkay, okay. Why did you say that he is a big baddie?â Gu Yang asked.
Ning Jinâs demeanor suggested a deep-seated fear and hatred of Ning Shen. Whenever he mentioned him, he glanced around warily, as if he expected Ning Shen to appear at any moment.
He looked at Gu Yang with a soft, timid expression and said, âSister, come closer. Iâll tell you quietly. If I speak too loudly, Brother might hear us.â
Gu Yang leaned in as instructed.
In a sudden move, Ning Jin snatched the candied hawthorn from her hand and smiled like a delighted child.
âSister, you talk too much. Itâs so annoying.â
Despite his innocent tone and hint of playful laughter, his actions were alarming. He jabbed the sharp end of the bamboo stick toward Gu Yangâs slender neck.
Gu Yangâs expression hardened. She quickly leaned back to evade the bamboo stick and, with swift reflexes, grasped the stick firmly between her fingers.
The candied hawthorn remained securely in her grip.
Ning Jinâs laughter faltered, and his smile froze as he saw the lack of blood he had anticipated. Regret and doubt flickered in his eyes.
Gu Yangâs cold laugh echoed as she tightened her grip on the candied hawthorn and struck Ning Jinâs head with it.
Though Ning Jinâs mental age was that of a child, his body was that of a young man in his twenties. Gu Yang felt no remorse as she struck him.
âAre you up to no good?â
If Gu Yang hadnât been on guard, she might have fallen into his trap.
Given that Ning Jin could be Ning Shen in disguise, she didnât dare let her guard down, no matter how harmless he seemed.
Ning Jin pouted and covered his head, looking genuinely hurt. âIt hurts. Sister, my head hurts.â
Gu Yang regarded him with cold detachment. It was as if he had no awareness of his own actionsâthere was no guilt, no empathy, only a selfish demeanor.
Her thoughts flashed back to Feng Jueâs traumatic experiences in the Ning family.
Staring at Ning Jin, she asked, âWhereâs your mother?â
Ning Jin tilted his head and smiled. âMom? Her family is fertilizing my rose garden. She raised the roses very brightly and beautifully.â
Gu Yangâs eyes darkened. âFertilizing?â
Ning Jinâs expression soured, and he seemed genuinely annoyed. âSister, letâs not talk about her. Sheâs so annoyingâalways chattering and making me do this and that. Sheâs as bothersome as Brother. So donât be like her, or I wonât like you either.â
Gu Yang couldnât discern any genuine affection in his words.
This version of Ning Jin was as menacing as Ning Shen, perhaps even more so.
