After hearing Leonâs thoughts, Konstantinâs perception of him seemed to shift slightly.
For someone he considered primarily a warrior, Leon demonstrated an unexpected depth when it came to parenting.
His ability to analyze childrenâs emotions and behavior with such care wasnât something one typically encountered among dragons.
After a moment of contemplation, Konstantin said,
âI understand. Iâll talk to Hefei about this.â
Leon smiled, deciding to let the matter rest.
He wasnât one to preach, and his earlier remarks had been more of a casual exchange.
However, just as the topic seemed to settle, Konstantin added with a smirk,
âEven if youâre better with children, your youngest daughter canât compete with Hefei in the literary field.â
Both Leon and Rosvisser exchanged confused glances.
âWhat do you mean by that?â Leon asked.
âHefei and Muse have been writing letters to each other for quite some time. Youâre aware of that, right?â
Leon nodded. âI am.â
âAnd?â
âHave you read any of their letters?â
âI havenât read them myself, but there was one time Muse encountered a few unfamiliar characters and asked me to help her out.â
Hearing this, Konstantinâs smug expression grew even more pronounced.
âWell, that just proves that Hefei has already surpassed Muse in this area. Hefeiâs confidence in her writing shows sheâs excelling. If she knew, Iâm sure sheâd be quite pleased.â
âHold on a second,â Leon interrupted.
âYouâre calling childrenâs letter exchanges a âliterary fieldâ?â
âIf that counts as literature, then the romance novels Rosvisser reads should be considered dragon classics!â
âAnd why not? Regardless, Hefei is ahead of Muse at the starting line.â
Hearing this, Leonâs competitive streak flared up instantly.
âOh please, Spitfire. Muse is a few months younger than Hefei. Of course, she knows fewer words. If youâre so eager to compete, why not wait until theyâre both at the academy?â
âThe academy?â Konstantin mused. âThatâs actually⊠not a bad idea.â
âDidnât Nora start attending when she was a little over a year old?â
âShe did. But how do you know so much about my eldest daughterâs academic record?â
âShe left quite an impression on me back during the events in the far north.â
âThe far north?â
Leon thought back and recalled the incident.
âThatâs when Konstantin, fresh from escaping the empire, was believed to be heading to the far north to seek the Primeval Force. So we brought Leviathan and rushed there.â
âBut as it happened, Noraâs outdoor assessment for her academy was also taking place in the far north.â
The three groups had crossed paths purely by chance.
âAnd before Rosvisser and I arrived, Nora relied on her quick thinking, courage, and resourcefulness to stall Konstantin long enough for us to get there.â
âAccording to Noraâs account, she did manage to cause Konstantin some trouble.â
âTo his credit,â Leon added, âKonstantin showed restraint and had no intention of harming the children.â
That incident had softened Leonâs impression of the Red Flame Dragon King.
Now, hearing Konstantin praise his daughter, Leon couldnât help but feel a swell of pride as a father.
âMy eldest daughter is a one-in-a-million genius. Starting school at that age was perfectly natural for her.â
Watching Leon bask in his fatherly pride, Konstantin let out a dry chuckle and said,
âI had considered enrolling Hefei at the same age as Nora. But on second thought, if I did that, she wouldnât have the chance to properly outshine your youngest daughter.â
Leon blinked. âSo?â
âSo, Iâll have Hefei stay at home for now, learning basic magic and knowledge under my guidance. When Muse is old enough to start at Saint Sis Academy, theyâll both enroll at the same time.â
Konstantinâs calm yet confident tone practically screamed,
youâll have no choice but to admit defeat, Leon.
âDefeat?â
At the sound of the word, Rosvisser, whoâd been quietly observing, immediately sensed trouble.
She knew her husband well. Leon could brush off coercion and ignore flattery, but the moment someone challenged himâespecially with the word âdefeatââhe was all in.
âDefeat? Iâve never been defeated, Spitfire,â Leon declared, his competitive streak fully ignited.
âIf thatâs how you want to play, fine. When Muse is ready, theyâll both attend Saint Sis Academy. Just make sure Hefei is prepared.â
âFor what?â Konstantin asked.
âTo face the possibility that she might lose to Muse in every subject,â Leon replied with a smirk.
âHmph. My daughter, the daughter of the Red Flame Dragon King, will not lose. But you might want to help Muse prepare her second-place acceptance speech.â
The two fathers bickered back and forth, much to Rosvisserâs amusement.
It turned out there was something even more satisfying than arguing with her stubborn husbandâwatching him argue with someone else.
âMommy, Mommy! Hefei and I are hungry. Can we go eat something?â
Before Rosvisser could grab some popcorn for the show, Muse tugged at her skirt, pleading sweetly.
Rosvisser crouched down to pinch her daughterâs cheek affectionately.
âAlright, little ones. What do you feel like eating?â
Muse and Hefei exchanged glances before shouting in unison,
âBarbecue!â
Rosvisser chuckled and stood.
âAlright, letâs go get some barbecue.â
âYay!â
âThank you, Auntie!â
Such polite little dragon girlsâit was hard to believe Hefei had been raised by Konstantin.
Meanwhile, the two childish fathers continued their debate.
âHefeiâs doodles clearly show artistic depth and skill.â
âOh please. A childâs doodles? If thatâs your standard, should I start calling your growls music?â
âYouâre impossible!â
âAnd youâre ridiculous!â
Before their argument could escalate further, Rosvisser interjected.
âIâm taking the girls for barbecue. Are you two going to keep arguing or come with us?â
The two fathers exchanged glances, their eyes silently communicating as if they shared the same thought.
Then, without a word, they trailed after Rosvisser and the girls.
Watching them follow obediently, Rosvisser sighed.
Good news:
Her childish husband had finally found someone he could get along with.
Bad news:
That someone was just as childish as he was.
