Eddie had finally arrived at the mall. She found it a little strange because she had no desire to look at clothes or jewelry. Instead, Eddie walked into the menās clothing department. When she looked through the clothes and accessories in the menās section, Eddie thought to herself, "Does this one suit Stuart? Would he like that one?"
Maybe she was gradually starting to get used to being Mrs. Yates? Even the shop assistant confirmed her thoughts, "You must love your husband very much."
Eddieās lips held a faint smile, and her eyes twinkled. With a sense of satisfaction, Eddie chose a tie and cuff for Stuart. As she got in the elevator, the door was about to close, and Eddie heard a flustered voice suddenly call in front of her, "Wait..."
Eddie quickly responded and pressed the button. The person promptly walked in and thanked Eddie gratefully, "Thank you..."
When Eddie raised her head, she noticed that it was Hickās Day. What a coincidence. Hickās was surprised too, "Eddie, youāre shopping too? What a coincidence that the two of us meet again."
"I know, I must say I am a little surprised to see you here."
Eddie smiled at Hickās and saw the bag in her hand, "Youāre here looking at menās clothing as well? Is it for your boyfriend?"
Eddie was joking, but little did she know that as soon as she said it the expression on Hicksā face quickly changed. Hick hid the bag behind her and said, "Nah, itās just for a friend. He has helped me a lot."
Eddie could tell that Hickās didnāt want to talk about it, so she didnāt ask her any more questions. Eddie knew that a celebrityās personal life has always been a sensitive topic. So it was normal for Hickās to avoid answering it.
Eddie thought that maybe she was too nosy. Hicks felt a little ashamed for not telling her about the gift she bought. After a brief hesitation, Hick spoke, "Eddie, would you like to have dinner with me tonight?"
The question surprised Eddie, "Why?"
Hicks gave Eddie a timid smile and said, "Um... I donāt know if youāve heard, but I got the Dion advertisement. You helped me a lot during the audition. If it werenāt for you, I wouldnāt have gotten the job, so I would like to thank you."
Eddie thought about it, and since Stuart told her in the morning that he had to work overtime tonight, he wouldnāt be home for dinner. So if she were to go back, then Eddie would have to eat alone, so she came to a conclusion why not have dinner with Hickās.
She nodded and said, "No worries. Iām free tonight, so yes, letās have dinner together."
The two of them didnāt want to go far, so they picked a French cuisine in the Times Mall. Before Eddie had a chance to ask, Hicks mentioned the Dion advertisement first. "You must be surprised, was I. It never occurred to me that such a big endorsement would fall onto my lap. You remember when we lined up? Despite Anne John, there were many celebrities with a higher position in showbiz than her."
"Then it goes to show that you must have a great talent! Regardless of your past, after you finish filming the advertisement, you will take a big leap in the entertainment world. When that time comes, no one will ever look down on you. By the way, Anne John is in the same company as you right? What was her reaction to it?"
Hicks laughed delightfully, "She flipped her lid when she found out."
"Ha, ha, ha, ha."
Since the two of them shared an interest in Anne John, they had a pleasant dinner in laughter and delight. After the meal, Hickās insisted on paying the bill. When they reached the ground floor in the elevator, Eddie asked, "Did you drive here?"
Hicks shook her head. Then Eddie said, "Wait for me at the door. Iāll drive my car over and take you to wherever you want to go. Are you going home? I can take you."
Hicks hesitated and said, "Okay, sure. I will wait here. Thank you."
Eddie didnāt overthink her response and drove her car over from the parking lot and picked Hickās up, "Where are you going?"
Hickās bit her lip nervously and then said in a low voice, "Iām going to the Hallucin Bar."
"Bar?"
Eddie was a little confused, "Are you going to drink? Are you going alone or are you meeting your friend? Is it safe there?"
Eddieās solicitude for Hickās well being did not make Hickās feel any better. She smiled rigidly at Eddie, "Itās fine; just take me there."
After all, Eddie and Hickās were not close friends. Eddie thought she shouldnāt concern herself with Hickās affairs. So she didnāt say anything anymore. Eddie started the car and drove towards the Hallucin bar.
They quickly arrived at the bar, and while looking at the neon lights, Eddie said, "Hicks, weāre here."
Unexpectedly, Hicks didnāt seem like she wanted to get out of the car. Hickās lowered her head so Eddie couldnāt see her eyes. Eddie couldnāt see the expression on her face. She was in a dilemma and bit down on her lower lip. Eddie knew that there was something wrong, "Hicks, is there something wrong?"
Hicks raised her head and smiled, but her face was pale, "Yes... I got myself into some trouble..."
"How could someone as timid as Hickās get into trouble?" Eddie thought.
"What happened? Tell me, maybe I can help you."
Hicks hesitated, her eyes suddenly filled with tears. It was apparent that Hickās was struggling with the dilemma. Eddie could tell by the expression on Hickās face that she couldnāt make up her mind if she should tell Eddie or not.
After taking a deep breath, she finally spoke, "I am only an infamous actress in the company. My agent doesnāt like me very much. Then after the company informed me yesterday that I had been chosen as the endorsement of Dion, my agent introduced me to an investor. He told me that I should take advantage of the publicās attention and broaden my network."
The agent should solely manage things such as investing. So making the actress meet the investor is definitely not a good thing. Giving Hickās a look of disapproval, Eddie said, "So, youāre here to meet with the investor?"
Hickās hands were shaking, and she nodded, "I still have an outstanding contract with my agent. I have to do what he asks of me, but Iām terrified. If I go see the investor by myself, I may not even have a chance to resist."
Hickās eyes were bloodshot, and her face was swollen from crying. Eddie knew Hickās was telling the truth. Hickās was so timid and shy that she could quickly be taken advantage of. If she met the investor by herself, Hickās would be in danger.
Eddie couldnāt think of any other solution, but since the incident was related to Hickās career, she asked, "What can I do to help?"
Hickās clenched her teeth and struggled to stay calm. Eddie looked at her and could see her mustering up the courage, and Hickās finally spoke, "Eddie, can you come with me?"
